The Division
The Customer Strategy and Technology team within Transport leads the development of long-term, multi-modal strategies, plans and policies across NSW. We implement new technologies, leverage data and insights, drive innovation and build partnerships to develop and deliver customer-centred products and technology solutions.
The Opportunity
Right now, we have multiple opportunities for Senior Media Officers to join our Media Branch. The primary purpose of this role is to support the Manager, Media and lead as a senior member in a team that provides strategic advice to share important information with NSW transport customers, and to positively contribute to the reputation of Transport for NSW.
The role contributes to the development and implementation of proactive and reactive media, social media and public relations strategies, and will manage issues and crisis collaboratively with a strategic focus aligned to Transport’s vision and values.
Please note that the main office for this role is based in Elizabeth Street. We work in a hybrid way, a mixture of working from home and in the office and we offer flexible working arrangements with lots of benefits.
Your Key Focus
Prepare and issue media statements whilst ensuring appropriate approval prior to release and under direction, act as organisational spokesperson as required.
Support management in providing strategic communication advice by monitoring state-wide media, preparing material for public engagements and responding to media issues and inquiries out of hours (including early morning radio) as required.
Support the management of major media and critical issues by researching and preparing media releases and media responses.
Ensure a high level of service to members of the media by providing timely and accurate responses to media inquiries.
Contribute to the functioning of issues management and media monitoring services, including the dissemination of summary information across Transport for NSW.
Coordinate event management preparation for public appearances and writing of material for public speaking by senior management, to ensure event objectives are achieved.
Build effective and collaborative relationships with the Ministers' offices, media representatives, managers across Transport for NSW and other media and communications staff across the Transport Portfolio.
Demonstrate the five ways of leading behaviours to deliver organisational outcomes for our customers, our people and communities for the greater good.
About You
Over 5 years’ experience working in a similar role
Appropriate tertiary qualifications or demonstrated, relevant, equivalent professional experience.
Demonstrated media/journalism experience within a Government, public relations or media environment in a contentious and complex environment.
Demonstrated experience in identifying potential critical issues and preparing appropriate media strategies for high profile and sensitive media issues.
Ability to work well under pressure and meeting deadlines

Salary and Benefits
The salary for this position is Grade 8 ($120,423 - $134,872) per annum plus superannuation and leave loading.
