About the team
The Legal, Privacy and Internal Audit branch is within the Corporate Services division providing strategies, solutions and services that make our clients’ working lives easier and their projects more efficient and effective. Our high-performing legal teams work collaboratively across the organisation, partnering to provide critical legal advice and guidance for sensitive, complex, and legal regulatory matters.
The opportunity
With the goal of delivering ever greater public value for the people of NSW, our Legal branch is undergoing an organisational transformation in response to an unprecedented level of activity with a view to streamlining processes, enhancing the breadth and depth of our internal specialist skill set and investing in our legal operational and practice management capabilities to drive efficiencies.
As a result of this significant transformation and growth, we have an opportunity for a Senior Manager, Legal and Construction Projects. This position will be an integral part of the specialist Construction and Major Projects team within our Legal branch and have responsibility for supporting development or delivery teams on specific major infrastructure projects.
For this role, we are seeking a senior lawyer with proven experience in dispute resolution across major construction and infrastructure projects.
Reporting to the Director Legal, Construction & Major Projects, you will be a senior trusted legal advisor responsible for providing solutions focussed independent advice on construction and projects matters to support the achievement of organisational outcomes, minimise legal risk and deliver on our commitment to our customers, the people of NSW.
Joining a dynamic team of inhouse legal experts partnering with senior stakeholders, this is an opportunity for external applicants to move to the client side whilst partnering with senior stakeholders across a variety of exciting mega projects development and delivery. About you
You are a construction / infrastructure legal professional with specialist experience in disputes and claims, as well as the advanced written and verbal communication skills to convey technical legal concepts clearly and succinctly. Experience in construction projects, infrastructure delivery and government will help you to quickly grasp the complexities of our unique working environment.
We are seeking legal professionals who model the highest standards of integrity and professional conduct and have the ability to communicate with and influence others effectively. You will be able to provide timely and considered advice, such that you inspire confidence in your clients as they grapple with high profile and often challenging issues.
You will possess a minimum of five years relevant legal experience and be eligible to hold an unrestricted practicing certificate
You will be a legal professional with demonstrated experience as a construction / infrastructure lawyer (back end) from within an in-house legal function of a large, complex organisation or in private practice providing strategic level advice across a diverse client base including public sector / government
You will have developed specialist expertise in disputes and claims, including complex and contentious matters within a major infrastructure / construction environment
You will be capable of working with a high degree of autonomy and possess strong business acumen, analytical skills, and the ability to make sound commercial decisions within a legal context
You will have exceptional stakeholder management skills and be accustomed to working with senior stakeholders at the Executive level
You will have strong communication and influencing skills, able to provide timely and considered advice such that you will inspire confidence in your clients and develop trusted and effective working relationships
Most importantly, you model the highest standards of integrity and professional conduct and are passionate about contributing to the future of NSW.
Salary and Benefits
This is a Transport Senior Service (TSSM Level) role offering an attractive remuneration package of up to $197K (TRP).
