Sydney Metro is Australia's biggest public transport project and first fully-automated metro rail network, connecting customers and transforming the way Sydney travels. About the IT Team
The Sydney Metro Information & Technology (IT) branch sits within our Corporate Services division. Sydney Metro IT supports the needs of Sydney Metro’s portfolio of transport infrastructure projects and the teams behind them. We deliver lifecycle management across digital, products/platforms, security and risk, customer experience, service management, application development and integration, architecture, and technology portfolio management.
We also play an important part in delivering the IT strategies that support Sydney Metro’s goals as an organisation by identifying technology opportunities, now and into the future.
The Strategy & Architecture Function
Leads technology design decisions and ensure overall technology alignment and interoperability within Sydney Metro and across the Transport for NSW portfolios.
Strategy & Architecture provides:
Business advisory and strategic alignment
Technology strategy
Technology governance, guardrails and Principles
Domain and solution architecture
Domain Architecture
Provide specialist thought leadership and strategic advice to ensure continuous alignment between their domain and the broader ICT Strategy.
Ensure Strategic alignment to the Transport 2056, Corporate Plan, IT Strategy & supporting product & platform / application roadmaps
Stakeholder Management – actively engage in strategic stakeholder management to advise & influence the direction and prioritization of technology investment
Engaging across business (all levels) AND technology stakeholders to lead Strategic Planning
Establishes strong relationships with our strategic vendors and partners
Manages disruption to the domain portfolio through ad-hoc, cluster-wide or inter-agency demand
Contributes to the iteration of the IT Strategy where required, for the domain, in response to changing business demand
Domain Architect – Applications
Establishes and maintains key relationships with senior stakeholders, delivery partners and enabling technology teams to identify, define and analyse & assure the application portfolio will continue to deliver value.
Builds and maintains a holistic view of the organisational strategy, processes, information, and application services and how there are consumed, ensuring that the business and IT are in alignment, relating application portfolio to the business mission, strategy, and processes of the organisation
Creates reusable application architectures, principles, and patterns to support sustainable delivery.
Provide Application Architecture domain expertise and ownership across the portfolio and leads lifecycle planning.
Provides Strategic Portfolio guidance to drive decisions in IT projects in-flight as well as inform demand through ‘opportunity’ and ‘pre-project’ phases.
Communicates and sells the vision of Strategic Portfolio Management & associated roadmaps both within IT and to the wider business.
Your key accountabilities are:
Live the NSW Public Sector and organisational values to achieve outstanding outcomes for the organisation and customers
Provide high-level strategic advice, co-develop financial and business case models to assess technologies and assist in the prioritisation of future investment in IT systems and processes to support business objectives and the business eco-system
Contributes to and assists in the preparation and maintenance of architecture elements, including principles, guidelines, reference models, standards, patterns and templates.
Provides thought leadership & oversight in the development and execution of the annual operational Forward Workload Plan (FWP), supporting business and budget planning.
Provides application portfolio guidance and decision making to IT projects and initiatives during opportunity and pre-project phases.
Undertake high-level research, horizon scanning and analysis to identify future IT trends, and assess and explain the value of existing investments and emerging technologies and their applicability to support business objectives for the domain
Maintain strict quality control with regards to the application portfolio ‘database’ and lend expertise to other domains to ensure quality information storage and organisation
Support the platform teams in aligning their demand prioritisation and forecasting to the enterprise strategy, drive ideation and contribute to project costing

About you
Demonstrable experience or exposure to any or all of the Asset Lifecycle: Transport (Rail), Engineering and Design, Construction, Asset Management & Operations, Maintenance (desirable)
Demonstrable experience with Strategic Portfolio Management, maintaining a Strategic Application Portfolio and authoring operational forward work plans.
Demonstrable experience working with multiple strategic partners to deliver consistent IT services
Demonstrable experience supporting and influencing key architecture decisions in solution design with robust, reusable, sustainable, and modern Application Architectures.
Demonstrable experience creating reusable application architectures, principles, and patterns
Demonstrable and recent certification in TOGAF, Cloud Architecture: AWS (Professional) / Azure (Expert) (or equivalent experience)
Demonstrable experience in the use of Technology Architecture modelling tools (iServer365 preferred)
Experience performing SWOT analysis on a Strategic Application Portfolio to ensure continued alignment to business priorities
