Delivering expert, authoritative and creative news coverage as part of a small team covering a large geographical area.
Reporting for multi-platform outlets including radio, TV, online and social media. You will be comfortable working alone or as part of a team in a variety of roles. The job will involve TV and radio package making, live on-air reporting, writing for radio news bulletins and providing material for social media.
The job will require on-air broadcasting, the use of a range of broadcasting equipment for TV, radio and in-the-field live broadcasting and an ability to tell stories in a way that works on digital platforms.
You will be able to demonstrate in depth knowledge of the news agenda of the area, as well as having good contacts or the ability to develop them.
The successful candidate will have lots of story ideas and an ability to identify the under-reported stories affecting people and communities. You will have an understanding of Dundee/Tayside institutions, issues and its diverse range of communities.
You will have in-depth knowledge of the Scottish news agenda and of Scotland's politics and how they might be reflected in Dundee and Tayside.
You will demonstrate skills in, or the ability to learn with appropriate training, desk top editing for radio and TV and self-shooting camera work. You will be expected to have a keen sense of how to make stories stand out visually as well as journalistically and be willing to work collaboratively with colleagues in order to convey stories in the most impactful way possible.
You will be expected to be able to tailor your storytelling style to the expanding range of BBC Scotland programming, which includes, Reporting Scotland, The Nine and the radio programmes Good Morning Scotland, Lunchtime Live and Drivetime. We’d like you to have plenty of ideas for how to differentiate coverage across these different outlets.
You will be able to demonstrate knowledge of Scots law and the law as it affects broadcasting.
There will be some weekend and evening working, considerable travel and a willingness to be flexible according to the editorial demands of the position.
