BBC Arabic provides news, current affairs and programmes on Radio, TV and Online to Arabic speaking audiences in the Middle East and across the world, 24 hours per day, seven days per week. The output is modern in style and outlook and adheres to BBC values of accuracy and impartiality. It has broad appeal, free from commercial, political and religious affiliations or pressures.

BBC Arabic reaches a weekly audience of approximately 44 million across platforms and provides one quarter of output across the entire World Service.

We are looking for a Senior Journalist who will provide specialist and general coverage of events across the range of BBC outlets from BBC Arabic in English and Arabic to international and UK outlets.

Role Responsibility

Some of your main accountabilities within this role will include:

• Originating and selecting stories related to Gulf affairs and regional affairs, and prepare programme material for broadcast, offering ideas and  giving guidance to senior editors and programme producers.
• Producing items for TV, Radio and Digital using the appropriate technical and production skills.
• Establishing strong relationships with news and programme editors in London and the region to assist with programme output.
• Contributing to the best use and integration of newsgathering operations across English and Language Service teams across Arabic region.

The Ideal Candidate

To be successful in this role, you should have Substantial experience in video and digital journalism and a high standard of editorial judgment and writing ability. You have proven ability to develop original stories and a commitment to a breadth of reporting across various Gulf affairs and regional topics. You have experience in deployments including preparing risk assessments, and fixing logistics. Broadcast standard classical Arabic and good English are required.
