You will join the Online Video Platform team (OVP) within Global Video Engineering & Apps where you will be positioned within business-critical propositions that support all our global streaming initiatives such as NOW, Sky Go, Peacock and our next streaming venture, SkyShowtime. We are on the lookout for motivated and outstanding individuals who want to be involved in cutting edge technology that truly pushes the boundaries and growth of streaming.

What you’ll do:

• Lead the design, development and testing for new and existing Java micro-service applications.

• Evangelize the use of container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes

• Utilise pair-programming for a regular basis and mentor less experienced developers

• Contribute or support training sessions to share knowledge with other members of your team/wider department e.g. training workshops, proof of concept overviews, lightning talks

• Maintain and contribute to software delivery principles and guidelines based on internal Sky standards and industry best-practice

• Strive for continuous improvement of our systems and ways of working

• Participate in research and technical initiatives to improve department technical capabilities.

What you’ll bring:

• A willingness to collaborate in a cross-team environment.

• Extensive system development knowledge in building scalable applications within Java

• In-depth experience working with REST APIs and noSQL Databases e.g. Cassandra

• An understanding of message-driven systems e.g. Kafka, Amazon Kinesis, ActiveMQ

• Applied knowledge of agile methodologies and software engineering concepts e.g. XP, Scrum, Pair Programming, TDD, BDD

• Familiarity with configuration and build tools such as Jenkins, Gradle, Maven

• Familiarity with standard monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus and Grafana

• Knowledge of design patterns and SOLID principles

• Practical experience building and working in a CI/CD environment.
