Job Description

Top Energy has operations throughout the Far North. The Company is privately owned by a power consumer trust and employs staff in Geothermal Generation and Distribution Lines operations. It is an exciting time to join us as we transition from an electricity distribution company designed to transfer electricity in one direction from a centralised source to multiple consumers. Evolving to a technology enabled distributed energy system that allows multi-directional energy transfers between small generators and users.

 

We are seeking person with a background in Health and Safety to support the HSR Manager to successfully manage the health, safety and risk portfolio of the Top Energy Group. The successful candidate will take ownership of aspects of the management system and assist the HSR Manager to develop, implement and monitor effective risk and health & safety policies, procedures and systems.

Key areas of focus will be:

  • Assist in developing and delivering the Group Health & Safety Strategy and annual work programme
  • Work to advance organisational safety culture maturity, achieved through effective communication, consultation, mentoring
  • Build relationships at all levels of the business to influence the safety culture
  • Improve staff and contractors' risk awareness, safety performance and compliance through effective policies, processes, audits, guides and training
  • Maintain and enhance the Health & Safety and Risk Management Framework
  • Participate in Process Safety Management activities and exercises
  • Lead worker engagement initiatives at Safe Team Meetings
  • Support the HSR Manager's lead of the activities and functions of the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Committee
  • Assist the HSR Manager to deliver information regarding health and safety performance and risk management assurance to the Executive Team and Boards of Directors
  • Championing initiatives as required

 

To succeed in this role, you will have at least 10 years' experience managing and/or coordinating health and safety activities to ISO standards in a medium to large organisation. It is essential that you have excellent communication skills and an extensive understanding of the health and safety legislation and risk management practices, along with a relevant membership with a risk institution (e.g., NZISM membership category: Professional or higher). It would be an advantage if you have previous experience in the electricity industry.
