At World’s Edge, we are hard at work continuing the great legacy of Age of Empires. We are a passionate group responsible for this amazing franchise, and we are looking for a seasoned front end  web developer with Wordpress development experience and a passion for building engaging, community-focused, user-friendly and scalable web sites.  This person will be responsible for working as a productive member of a small team on a consumer-facing web site’s theming and features, bringing to life our team’s creative designs and incorporating the spirit of the Age franchise games.  You’ll bring your strong front end development skills to help set the standard for the next generation of our interactive, responsive and immersive web site. 

Responsibilities

Candidate Responsibilities:

• Develops custom, sometimes complex WordPress-based web site templates and features
• Help set and document standards for front end frameworks, libraries and approach   
• Stay current on the latest web technologies to deliver delightful experiences for our customers
• Build exciting web front-end experiences that cleanly integrate with back-end services
• Engage with community managers, designers, and marketing teams on the best ways to make their designs a reality using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript among other tools
• Uphold coding and design best practices to produce accessible, cross-device, mobile-friendly, and responsive experiences
• Leverage your experience with a broad range of technology stacks, platforms and workflow tools to do your best work and teach others to do the same
• Assist with PHP/Wordpress backend custom development as able

Qualifications

Candidate Requirements: 

• Strong understanding of front-end technologies, including HTML5, CSS3/SASS/SCSS, JavaScript, and demonstrated expertise in the appropriate use of HTML5 and CSS3 in modern, responsive, performant experiences on the web.
• Experience with Flexbox and Grid, understanding of the importance of CSS specificity.  Familiar with SMACSS and BEM.  Experience using and writing mixins and functions.
• Knowledge of how to interact with RESTful APIs.
• Experience with change control systems, specifically git.
• 3+ years of experience in a related position building large-scale community-focused websites
• Cross-browser and cross-device development & testing
• Strong analytical and creative problem solving skills

 Bonus skills:

• Comfortable working with databases like SQL/MySQL
• Familiar working with design tools like Photoshop and Illustrator
• Knowledge of and exposure to build tools like Webpack
• Experience working with WordPress at a PHP code level including:
  • Knowledge of existing inbuilt WordPress functions
  • Creation of custom post types
  • Creation of clean, logical, well-documented and re-usable code
• Experience prototyping and developing innovative websites
