Sydney Metro is leading Australia’s biggest public transport infrastructure program, developing and delivering a new world-class metro railway system for Sydney. 

As a new NSW Government statutory authority, Sydney Metro has been tasked with developing and delivering metro railways, and managing their operations. Sydney Metro also leads the development of vibrant station precincts to meet customer and community needs, transforming the way Sydney travels and helping shape the future of Australia’s largest city.

The opportunity

We currently have a position for a Senior Design Manager on the Western Sydney Airport Metro SSTOM package (Stations, Systems, Trains, Operations and Maintenance).

The primary purpose of this role is to lead all aspects of design development including the review, provision of advice and design function for technical, earthworks, drainage, flooding and hydrology for transport infrastructure and related corridors and precincts in conjunction with a range of subject matter experts. The role requires the preparation, management and review of the Project’s design plan to ensure that designs and specifications delivered are high quality, meet customer and transport product requirements, integrate effectively with other transport modes, incorporate master planning principles and practice, achieve a high standard for corridor and precinct landscapes and meet the requirements of all project development work streams and meet contract specifications.

As Senior Manager Design, you will be expected to:

Develop and implement a framework across the Project for the development and management of all aspects of design development including civil engineering design, for all Project assets and related corridors and precinct. You may also be involved in the development and management of civil components of projects.

Prepare, manage and review the Project’s design plan.

Monitor, review, advise and challenge the content and quality of designs to ensure the Project meets customer and transport product requirements and integrates with the existing network and local infrastructure and to ensure best and fit for purpose outcomes.

Monitor and ensure that designs are fit for purpose, assured and comply with planning requirements, statutory and legislative construction, operations requirements and relevant standards including accessibility.

Provide high level specialist advice and technical leadership in relation to civil engineering design and technical input, for stations, corridors and precincts and ensure technical aspects of project designs proposed meet safety and engineering standards, contract specifications, the needs of the local community and the existing network.

Identify best practice design principles and requirements and work in consultation with other design disciplines to provide leadership in systems, practices and to facilitate knowledge sharing.

About you

Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering or a relevant discipline and membership, or ability to become a member of a relevant professional body.

Experience with and understanding of the legislation, policy, processes and practices involved in planning for and delivering major transport projects.

Experience in Large scale multi-disciplinary Civil Design Management.

Able to work with the Contractors to manage Sydney Metro requirements.

Experience in delivering major civil development projects.

The role is identified as a Rail Safety Worker (RSW)
