Role purpose:      

• Work alongside the Head of Legal, Legal Leadership team and senior lawyers to raise the profile and impact of the Business Legal team within the business & drive employee engagement within the team;
• To own and drive Business Project Legal activities and projects; 
• Work alongside Senior Counsel and Counsel in providing specialist and expert product legal advice; and;
• Drive Business legal transformation projects, process improvement and change innovation 

What will you be doing?

• Providing or procuring legal advice and assistance in all areas of commercial law relating to the provision of Business products and services for Vodafone Limited.
• Legal support in relation to new product development and service introduction and updates to existing products and services. 
• Managing Business Legal priorities and resource planning using agile tools and processes.  
• Support the creation of Business UK Product contract documentation and input to Business Legal contract template strategy.
• Working closely with the Group Business Legal Product team to develop and maintain an aligned approach.
• Providing expert advice on structuring, and drafting and negotiating contracts with suppliers, partners and customers required in the development and deployment of the Business Product catalogue. 
• Inputting to the legal contracting agenda for suppliers and partners engaged in the provision of Business Products, developing strong relationships with legal colleagues in the UK Supply Chain and Vodafone Procurement Company (VPC);
• Developing relationships and with relevant individuals with other key functions outside Business Product Management involved in the development and/or deployment of Business Products;
• Regular liaison with Vodafone Limited’s regulatory and compliance teams and the provision of commercial/product legal support on key regulatory projects such as financial and payment services regulation and the implementation of the European Electronic Communications Code. 
• Assisting in the training of teams within the Product Management function on key legal issues and in running “Product Meets Deals” sessions.
• Advising on financial services matters on consumer credit and payment services. Drafting and maintaining consumer credit documentation.
• Advice in relation to Business marketing, advertising and sponsorship agreements. Developing and maintaining efficient and effective relationships with the Business Marketing teams.
• Assisting in the maintenance and evolution of Totem (Business Product Legal’s database of live Business products and the Service Terms applicable to them)
• Creating and evolving Product legal know-how, guidance notes and process improvements
• Providing a wide range of leadership and management support to the Product Legal Lead and Lead Counsel, including developing and implementing strategy, developing, documenting and maintaining best practice and inspiring and motivating junior members of the team.
• Providing legal advice, assistance and support (on both a proactive and reactive basis) to internal customers in writing, orally, by presentations and in meetings. 
• Establishing clear prioritisation of legal projects with all appropriate stakeholders in order that all key product legal projects are adequately resourced.
• Managing the relationship between external solicitors and Vodafone Limited in relation to all Business activities.
• As a senior lawyer within the function, working with the General Counsel, Head of Legal and Legal Leadership team to deliver team objectives and raising the profile and impact of the Legal function in the business. 
• Reviewing a wide range of sources of information for proposed legal developments and up to date case law; providing comment to the government/regulatory bodies as appropriate; flagging up emerging issues to the Group and UK Legal teams and the business as appropriate, including providing advice and comment in writing and/or in presentations/workshops. 

Who are we looking for?

• Sound commercial and legal judgement.
• Ability to devise innovative solutions and lead change management.
• Good decision-making skills and ability to identify and communicate key risks to internal and external stakeholders
• Skilled at providing practical, strategic and logical advice tailored to the audience.
• Ability to collaborate with others in the Business Legal team, and UK Legal team more broadly in order to flex resources across the team and co-ordinating legal support across all of Vodafone Business.
• Solicitor or barrister practising in either private practice or in an in-house role in the commercial field.
• Able to deal with highly complex and high risk issues in relation to commercial law.  Excellent level of general legal knowledge.
• Expert drafting skills and able to draft all necessary documentation up to the highest level of complexity.
• Excellent level of commercial judgement and consultancy skills; able to advise internal customers confidently and effectively at all levels but with particular skill to influence at Director level.
• Excellent negotiation and influencing skills and able to lead on complex legal negotiations in both private and public sector.
• Working knowledge of Vodafone Limited’s regulatory environment (whether OFCOM, ICO or FCA)
• Experience in advising on financial services and promotions, including consumer credit, payment services and insurance) is desirable but not essential
• Excellent decision- making skills on conduct of all matters within the working area and able to provide leadership on strategic issues relating to procurement contracts and related matters.
• Able to review legal work of others and provide coaching and guidance.
• Ability to build and maintain excellent network of client contacts across the business, other relevant industry groups, relevant professional external contacts
