Job Description

The Financial Markets Authority (FMA) plays a critical role in regulating capital markets and financial services in New Zealand, ultimately providing better outcomes for investors, customers, participants, and for the New Zealand economy.

 The Strategy and Stakeholder Relations team leads the development of FMA's corporate strategy, through analysing market and consumer trends in the sectors we regulate; making recommendations to the Board on where we should focus and prioritise our resources and activities; and supporting the implementation of those recommendations. 

The Role - Te TÅ«ranga 

We have a rare opportunity for a Senior Analyst to join our close-knit Strategy team, based in Auckland. Directly reporting to the Head of Strategy, this position has a pivotal role in supporting the setting of the FMA's strategic direction. You'll get to:

  • Work across the FMA, including with its senior leadership, to support the identification and prioritisation of regulatory risks and opportunities
  • Undertake quality research and analysis of macro and sector trends impacting financial services in New Zealand and their impact on conduct
  • Act as Secretariat to several important Committees, such as FMA's Strategy Committee and the FMA/ASIC Trans-Tasman Emerging Risk Committee

 About you - ÅŒ pÅ«kenga 

You will need to bring at least 3 years' experience working in a corporate strategy, public policy, regulatory, or economic role and ideally a relevant tertiary qualification in finance, law or economics. 

Just as important to your success in this role will be your attributes, you will need exceptional communication skills and the confidence to connect and engage with stakeholders at all levels, including FMA senior leadership. You will be analytical and a forward-thinker, an effective planner and have an innate curiosity to understand how things work.
