Job Description

The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) is looking for an innovative and experienced Senior Advisor to help lead our journey to carbon neutrality and support the Department's assurance activities.  Reporting to the Manager, Ministerial and Business Services, you'll be part of a pool of highly specialised kaimahi (staff) working directly with senior leaders in the Strategy, Governance and Engagement (SGE) Group - the part of DPMC that ensures the dynamic and fast-moving organisation is heading in the right direction, has a clear sense of purpose and builds transparency around how we add value.

This is a role where you will be looked to for both your own expertise, experience, and career wins, alongside working with others in a strongly collaborative and influencing manner. Your approach will demonstrate the DPMC values of courage, connectedness, commitment, and respect as you mahi (work) across SGE, DPMC and the public service.

You will be responsible for:

  • delivering fulfilment of the Carbon Neutral Government Programme - so that our people take ownership of the part they play in achieving net zero carbon emissions and DPMC meets all its external reporting obligations.
  • monitoring DPMC's corporate performance and managing critical assurance activities to ensure our Executive Leadership Team is well-informed of risk and mitigation actions.
  • working flexibly across the SGE Group to ensure we deliver on strategy, planning and corporate services for our Business Groups and Ministers.

Our ideal candidate will be flexibile, enjoy variety, and bring:

  • demonstrated experience identifying and working with critical data sources
  • experience developing and reporting on sustainability initiatives
  • strong influencing and relationship skills, quickly building rapport, credibility, and trust
  • ability to engage meaningfully within te ao Māori and with other cultural frameworks, working collaboratively and inclusively
  • analytic and strategic thinking applied to a range of macro and micro issues
  • an ability to express your ideas clearly and conceptually - in writing and verbally
  • resilience, quickly adjusting and adapting to changing or ambiguous conditions
