About the team

The Operations, Customer and Place-making (OCP) team ensures Sydney Metro is equipped to deliver integrated, reliable, customer focused and efficient services. We are also managing large scale place-making projects, designing, and developing thriving precincts where community members can gather, connect, shop, work and play. The opportunity          

 

Right now, we have an opportunity for a Senior Advisor Environment to join the Sydney Metro West Environment, Sustainability and Planning team (which sits within the OCP Division).  

 

The primary purpose of the role is to provide high level specialist environmental management for the project, working with a team to monitor, influence and report on environmental performance in accordance with relevant approvals, contract requirements, legislation, systems and processes and best practice.

 

What you will be involved in:   

 

Assist to lead and manage a team comprising of environment specialists, construction contractors and other consultants to undertake environmental compliance, inspections and reporting to ensure compliance with relevant NSW and Commonwealth legislation, systems and processes and other policy requirements

Manage the provision of high-level environmental management advice and recommendations on project environmental issues, operation of environmental management system and recommend improvements, and other project policies and procedures, ensuring requirements are implemented to support best practice environmental outcomes

Identify environmental risks and issues for projects and interdependencies across multiple programs of work, and recommend appropriate risk management strategies and interventions to minimise risk

Manage the review of construction contractors’ environmental management plans, reports, and other strategies relating to the project, and provide specialist technical input as required on environmental issues including resolution of complex problems to ensure full compliance with standards and legislation

Monitor and undertake analysis activities to ensure the implementation of environment and relevant sustainability principles during the construction phase of the project.

Ensuring that station, rail systems and precinct design outcomes are integrated while understanding the interface between CSSI and SSD planning approval requirements

 

This position is located in the CBD, with flexible work arrangements.  It will also have a site base depending on the project requirements.  The role may have up to 3 direct reports.

About you

 

You are a dynamic senior Environment professional with solid proven ability to lead and deliver quality environmental management services to support large scale road, rail or civil infrastructure projects.  You also possess experience and an understanding of the legislation, policy, processes, and practices involved in the planning, environmental impact assessment, environmental management and sustainability for delivering major projects.

 

Along with a tertiary qualification in an environmental, natural resource, planning, environmental engineering or similar discipline, you are outcome focussed with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with a range of key stakeholders.

 

Experience with and understanding of CSSI, SSI and SSD planning approval requirements and how they relate to design and to the delivery partners and in post-approval management.

You are a tactful communicator, strong people leader and enthusiastic in your approach to problem solving.  As well as being collaborative and driven with demonstrated skills and experience working within a fast paced, complex and demanding project environment.
