We are experiencing an exciting time of innovation and improvement in the sector and have a busy pipeline of important work including Fisheries System Reform, Revitalising the Hauraki Gulf, Strengthening Fishing Rules and Policies, Ensuring Healthy Ocean Ecosystems, and the implementation of On-Board cameras to name a few.
The role of the Fisheries Science team is to support Fisheries New Zealand's policy, strategy and management by providing scientific advice on the sustainability of fisheries and on assessing and mitigating environmental effects of fishing.
The Science Officer is responsible for providing timely technical and administrative support to the science team and is expected to work independently and to carry duties through to their completion with a minimum of supervision. You will be responsible for working on independent tailored projects, as well as updating and maintaining science group databases and document tracking systems.
This is a 1-year fixed term position that would suit an energetic individual looking to further their career in marine and fisheries science.
