The opportunity

We are currently looking for a Safety Advisor to join the NSW TrainLink team on a permanent full-time basis.  Base yourself at either Central Station or on the Central Coast, travel to sites will be required.

Reporting to the Senior Manager Safety Delivery (N&C), the primary purpose of the role is to assist with the provision of Safety Management across the business and the maintenance of an effective risk management process, through implementing all safety policies, protocols and procedures.

The role is responsible for keeping correct and up-to-date administrative records, facilitating training in safety policies and requirements across portfolio activities on behalf of the NSW State Government in accordance with the Rail Safety National Law, Work Health and Safety Act, Work Health and Safety Regulation, Heavy Vehicle National Law, relevant Work Health and Safety Legislation and Codes of Practice.  This role will also execute safety responsibilities, authorities and accountabilities consistent with NSW TrainLink’s safety management system.

Key accountabilities of the Safety Advisor include coaching and supporting our people by conducting weekly reviews of safety critical communication, offering specialist safety support, coordinating post incident support and care in collaboration with frontline leaders. The safety advisor will also support preparation and delivery of safety programs as well as undertaking regular site inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards, identify areas of improvement and continually promote positive safety behaviour standards.

You will identify, investigate and resolve any problems, complaints, issues raised in consultation with operational management and staff and put appropriate effective controls in place to proactively manage risks.  This will include partnering with key stakeholders to contribute to the development, implementation and operation of effective systems and processes to fulfil legislative requirements on behalf of the NSW State Government.

About you

We are looking for a health and safety professional with demonstrated stakeholder management skills, strong interpersonal and communication skills.  You must be able to operate with reasonable degree of autonomy in respect to day to day work priorities and take ownership of your work.

In addition, you must have tertiary qualifications in health and safety and/or relevant industry. Experience in critical high-risk environments is desirable.

Salary and benefits 

This position is a Grade RC5 ($103,151 - $119,520) per annum plus superannuation and leave loading.
