This position is suited to a mature student or working professional, as you will be primarily responsible for providing pastoral care support to TEAN (www.teanabroad.org) study abroad students during their semester at Canterbury. Essentially being their main point of contact during their time living in Christchurch, New Zealand and ensuring their well-being, academic performance and providing the student with support wherever necessary.

This is a really fun role where you will have the opportunity to organise and run cultural activities and excursions for these students both within Christchurch and with some domestic travel around the South Island, so the ability to lead, coordinate and manage a group of students is essential. The timing of these activities and tours can be organised around your schedule so if you are looking for flexibility with some travel on the odd weekend then this opportunity is for you!

Role details & Responsibilities:

  • Casual Fixed-Term contract from June 1 to November 12, with the potential to extend. Approx 5-8 hours per week depending on actual hours worked, engagement with students and running activities and tours etc.
  • Ability to attend the TEAN Orientation in Auckland and Rotorua on 4-8 July. All travel expenses including transport, flights, tours, accommodation and meals will be provided.
  • Ability to organise local day excursions and cultural activities for the students during the semester (budget and planning guidance and existing itineraries will be provided) with some excursions on weekends.
  • Ability to meet with students on campus for coffee catchups fortnightly or when a student asks for additional support during the semester.
  • Ability to respond to student issues, emergency situations and report back to NZ Director of Operations and US counterparts with requested information in a timely manner.
  • Must be responsible, be able to work remotely and have good communication skills, being able to report into a Manager based in Auckland and respond promptly to all communications via email, phone and messaging.
  • This position is ideally suited to someone with good flexibility, an interest in international education, holds or is currently working towards a degree level qualification, has an understanding and appreciation of New Zealand's Cultural Identity including Te Ao Māori and someone who is adventurous and wants to be a part of providing a fun and culturally enriching experience to our students.
  • This position will represent all Worldstrides brands in Christchurch including The Education Abroad Network (TEAN) and International Studies Abroad (ISA)
