We are a state government organisation made up of more than 28,000 people and we're in the middle of delivering the largest transport infrastructure program in Australia's history. We work across planning, policy and procurement, harnessing data and technology to develop smarter and more adaptive transport solutions.

That means job opportunities in metropolitan and regional areas right across NSW – you have the chance to be part of creating a lasting legacy that will benefit generations to come.

 About IT at TfNSW

TfNSW’s IT group provides the tools, information and services that enable 30,000 employees to deliver a smart and efficient transport network. We bring the future to our people by delivering innovative solutions and minimising business disruptions, building an engaged and connected workforce through tech-enablement. This is an exciting time to join the team, with a committed annual investment of $700m for progressive technology projects including bots, apps, AI solutions, autonomous 3D mapping drones, cybersecurity and transforming cameras across our network.

 The opportunity

The primary purpose of The Release Manager is to be accountable for assisting with the execution of the release and deployment management process, ensuring a co-ordinated and low risk transition of services and solutions to production environments across infrastructure and applications services. This role will support the creation of the forward release schedules and release configurations, and assist with the movement of releases into production environments. The role will ensure that frameworks, policies and processes that support the structured release and deployment of approved releases are aligned, and provide support with planning, reporting and analysis of release packages, scheduling

and risks.

As Release Manager, you will be expected to:

• Assist with the development and maintenance of the release calendar and schedule, working closely with application portfolio teams, service portfolio teams and suppliers to develop a central consistent view of all releases and assist in identifying project interdependencies to ensure release integrity. Provide communications to key delivery teams and third party suppliers to ensure alignment and awareness of the release schedule.

• Update the release repository with information that will aide in managing key information such as build and release procedures, dependencies, and notification lists.

• Co-ordinate release go-live activities including the execution of deployment plans and checklists, and support the communication of release status, progress, issues and risks. Maintain relationships and coordinate work between different teams at different locations including interfacing and communicating with Test Managers, Development Managers, Service Portfolios, the Enterprise PMO and third party suppliers on a daily basis. Generate reporting for communication to senior management in Group IT and communicate release details and schedules across Group IT and Transport agencies as required.

• Assist with the identification and escalation of risks and resolution of issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality. Monitor and report on progress to ensure releases are delivered on time and within budget, and that they meet or exceed expectations. Support release readiness reviews, milestone reviews, and go/no-go reviews, assist with the preparation of materials for Change Advisory Board meetings to discuss release scope and/or roadblocks, and support post release reviews.

• Support the creation and maintenance of the release and deployment management process flow documentation to ensure it is designed in a manner consistent with the Process Quality Framework.

  • Collaborate with the Continual Service Improvement team to analyse and identify improvements to the release and deployment management process.

• Proactively identify potential risks and escalate these to the line manager. Contribute to the development of risk management plans, establishment of risk controls and performance of risk mitigation activities.

• Work as part of a central Release Management team that will work across the Cluster to align Enterprise and portfolio release management according to the defined process.
