Available now, an emergency medicine registrar role, in which you will work in the busy emergency department of a regional general hospital serving a population of 200,000 people. The department is open 24/7 and staffed by 15 consultants in emergency medicine supported by registrars and house officers.

The hospital has 260 beds and provides standard secondary care services including ICU and helicopter retrieval service and is supported by tertiary care in nearby Auckland.

The hospital acts as referral centre for three small hospitals and the catchment area covers 12,600 square kilometres renowned for its beautiful beaches and relaxed lifestyle. There are great surf beaches and beautiful harbours and bays for sailing, kite surfing and windsurfing. It is also a top spot for fishing and diving with easy access to the world famous Poor Knights Marine reserve. There are also many beautiful forests and stunning hills to explore and climb.

• The Department of Emergency Medicine is accredited for 12 months ACEM advanced training and paediatric log book requirements.
• The consultants enthusiastically lead weekly RMO teaching sessions as well as teaching for those sitting examinations.
• Rotations to other specialty services (ICU, anaesthetics, paediatrics, and medicine) are established.
• The department is well supported by all the other services.
• Radiology has the latest CT scanner, the first of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, and Emergency Medicine staff actively utilise ultrasound in their patient care, with 2 machines in the ED including the latest Sonosite.

Duties

• You will work side by side with a dedicated team including 15 very experienced emergency physicians who provide close supervision for trainees with a commitment to clinical teaching.
• You will gain experience in many procedures and develop your clinical skills to be the best.

Requirements

• eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
• It is ideal to have at least 6 months experience in emergency medicine and paediatrics.
