Position Summary

Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation.

An exciting part time or full time opportunity exists for an experienced and enthusiastic orthopaedics and plastics Registered Nurse to join our dynamic nursing team on 8 North working across the 24/7 spectrum.

8 North is a 32 bed ward consisting of acute and elective patients specialising in Orthopaedic and Plastics Reconstructive surgery.

Orthopaedics

The Orthopaedic unit manages a wide variety of acute and elective bone related injuries including degenerative changes and traumatic fractures/injuries which require surgical or non-surgical intervention.

The Austin is the main tertiary hospital in Victoria for acute spinal injuries and therefore 8 North specialises in spinal fractures not involving spinal cord injuries. Patients with spinal fractures are directly transferred to 8 North from all over Victoria to receive consultation and management of their injuries.

Plastics

The Plastic surgery unit performs both acute, elective reconstructive surgery and management of patients with congenital abnormalities, traumatic injuries, chronic wounds and neoplastic diseases.

To be successful in this role you must demonstrate:

  • Registered Nurse, Division 1 (General) Nurses Board of Victoria
  • Work across a 24/7 shift rotation
  • Acute surgical experience
  • Patient/customer focused approach to care delivery
  • Open, flexible & innovative
  • Advanced interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to quality, best practice and environmental safety
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form
  • Ability to problem solve in a variety of situations
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Critical thinking skills and the ability to work autonomously.
