The Older Persons Mental Health Admission Unit (AlexandraHospital) provides psychiatric and geriatric care for the older members of ourcommunity.

We aspire to deliver high quality inpatient care to patientswith acute mental health needs and co-existing age related health conditions.

We work in partnership with patients, their families, the clinical team andcommunity carers and supports to achieve the best possible health outcome forthe patient.

We have a permanentpart-time position available, working an average of 60 hours a fortnight.Duties as rostered and include all shifts (mornings, afternoons and nightshift) and weekends.

Youwill be a NZ Registered Nurse, with current registration and APC, and will havea minimum of one year of post registration nursing experience.

Required experience and knowledge includes :

• Physical and mental disorders commonly experienced in older persons
• Contemporary treatment approaches including person-centred care, sensory modulation, therapeutic use of self and therapeutic use of psychiatric medications
• Mental Health assessment and care planning
• Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act, 1992
• PPPR Act - Welfare Guardianship

Required skills include :

• Well-developed interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary team
• Ability to work effectively with patients who have challenging behaviours.
