About this role

An exciting opportunity to join the Openreach Heavy Engineering organisation. The organisation is positioned to provide all openreach business units with heavy engineering capability (poling) across the UK. This primarily involves Openreach activity relating to excavation and reinstatement in the public and private land. Elements of cabling, jointing and copper repair (e.g. on maintenance digs) are also features of the evolving team.   

 

You\'ll have the following responsibilities

  • You will be field based and able to travel. You will be required to identify ongoing poling innovation opportunities, present compelling evidence for change, then recommend solutions. You will create bespoke projects and then drive benefits through effective implementation. (includes changes to process, kit, fleet, plant, production methodology, devices and systems)
  • Significant Senior Stakeholder experience and working within highly matrixed environments.
  • Experience of working with Commercial teams to deliver the unit financials
  • Ability to interpret financials into meaningful insight, to inform decision making.
  • Single point of contact for all Heavy Engineering Managers for all financial support.
  • This role will also involve working with, and influencing, multiple stakeholders (inc senior managers) across Openreach and BT group, you will attend sessions to help operational Directors and their direct reports to understand what services we offer and why we should be the supplier of choice for their poling. This will be continuous as the scope of the organisation grows and as gang numbers grow.  
  • You will deliver an ethos in the team where we seek to avoid poling and find cheaper solutions.  
  • Be willing to voice an opinion and look at the “art of the possible” Must be able to create a clear vision, delivering against key metrics.
  • Demonstrates an extremely high level of analytical capability
  • Own drive, and deliver the implementation of all vehicles, plant, kit, devices and consumables (inc making choices on the most cost effective fleet required for your bespoke regional set-up)

You\'ll have the following skills & experience

  • Experience of financial and commercial processes and systems having a lead role and playing a part in finding opportunity and benefits but also adding value to our business. 
  • Strong leadership and communication skills 
  • Strong organisation skills , ability to delegate
  • You are the face of Openreach heavy engineering in the region and are responsible for all regional communications, reputation, and are the interface for Highways Authorities and all external bodies.
  •  Ability to work in fast-moving and evolving environment 
  • Time management and problem solving skills 
  • Flexible and willing to support UK wide 
  • Commercial awareness 
  • Analytical skills, and working with Microsoft Excel
