He angitūtanga : The opportunity
Situated in our East Coast Bays Leisure Centre, as a Recreation Assistant, no two days will be the same! You’ll help us deliver an exciting range of community fitness and school holiday programmes.
In this frontline role, your responsibilities will include, delivering exceptional customer service to our customers and visitors supporting with the delivery of a variety of exciting programmes for children aged 5-12, helping the Centre maintains a caring, fun and safe fitness and leisure environment, providing assistance to Centre management with administration and operational duties;
and supporting with Centre activities including sporting leagues and daily timetabled programmes.

You’ll already be passionate about sports and recreation, and ready to step into a frontline customer service role. It goes without saying that you’ll be responsible when it comes to working with children.
You’ll have a flexible approach and be able to use your initiative to facilitate suitable programmes for kids. An enthusiastic team player, you’ll have a positive attitude and infectious energy, and be committed to providing your customers with an exceptional experience.
Ideally, you’ll hold a First Aid Certificate and have an understanding of health and safety procedures. While previous experience working with children is beneficial, it’s not essential.
Importantly, you’ll be committed to maintaining a high degree of professionalism in your work.

The position will be 23.5 hours per week across a 7 day roster and over 5.45am start through to 9.15pm finish.
We have three shifts in a working day, the successful applicant will need to be able to work any of these shifts including one weekend shift.
Mon Friday 5.45am 13.30, 13.30 21.15, 16.30 21.15 and Saturday 7.45 3.15

This position is deemed a safety-sensitive position and will require pre-employment drug testing.
Auckland Council is committed to the protection and wellbeing of children. This role is classified as a Children's Worker role under the Vulnerable Children Act 2014.
As such applicants will be required to undergo police vetting prior to commencing employment. Appointment will be subject to a satisfactory police check.
