Qualified Teacher - Early Learning Centre (Cromwell)

About the role

Teachers at Barnardos Early Learning Centres work in partnership with parents and whānau to encourage children’s curiosity, learning and development.

As a teacher you contribute to assessment, planning and implementation of a curriculum to infants, toddlers and young children that reflects current approaches to effective teaching and learning.

We have permanent full and part-time positions in the purpose-built Cromwell centre, which is located in a unique garden setting that reflects the natural environment, is open plan design and is light and airy with plenty of space for tamariki.

We love the spacious outdoor area, getting together to share kai and the passionate teaching team have a great environment to teach in.

Key responsibilities

• Support planning, implementation and evaluation of a learning programme that is responsive to the strengths and interests of children
• Promote learning opportunities which are inclusive, equitable and culturally responsive
• Document children’s learning and take responsibility for children’s profile books and e-portfolio, as agreed with the Centre Manager.

Skills and experience

• Early childhood teaching qualification recognised by the Teaching Council of Aotearoa NZ
• Current Teaching Council Practising Certificate
• Experience working as a teacher in an early childhood education team setting
• The ability to use initiative and a commitment to quality practice standards and the principles of Te Whāriki
• Knowledge and understanding of current early childhood education theory and practice
• Excellent communication, planning and organisational skills
• Enthusiasm and a strong desire to make a difference to children in their early years while building strong links with their whānau and families.

As these positions are covered under the Public Health Response (Vaccinations) Order 2021, a condition of employment is that staff are fully vaccinated by 1 January 2022.
