The BBC’s portfolio of products includes iPlayer, News, Sport, Weather, Children's, Bitesize and the BBC Homepage. Media Service is a group with Digital Distribution which provides many of the back end supporting services that provide a platform for the delivery of our online products. Using cutting-edge, Cloud-based technologies and working within a Devops culture, Media Services is the team responsible for receiving, storing, transcoding, packaging and managing playback for all of the BBC's online audio and video content
You will join a highly technical, Agile, fast-moving and motivated software engineering team who take pride and responsibility for delivering exceptional and innovative products. Your role is to ensure that delivery outcomes and quality goals are well understood, tracked and that our products are delivered to delight our stakeholders.
Role Responsibility
- Working with the Product Manager and other stakeholders to agree the project objectives, agree scope, critical success factors, deliverables, outcomes and benefits
- Producing a detailed project plan/schedule and managing the day-to-day progress against this
- Managing the delivery within agreed scope, time, cost and quality constraints
- Identifying, tracking and managing progress, risks, issues, assumptions, dependencies, interdependencies and changes
- Making effective use of reporting, communication and escalation
- Providing input to the Department Delivery Process for new projects and the future roadmap
- Playing a key role in helping the team to deliver quickly by resolving impediments, facilitating meetings where required and working with internal teams to plan for future changes
- Bolster already-Agile teams to deliver valuable outcomes for stakeholders
- Ensuring that teams use data-driven insight to adapt and change their approach for effective delivery
The Ideal Candidate
Essential
- Thorough knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle
- Proven experience of delivering software solutions in an iterative or Agile environment at scale
- Experienced in supporting multiple technical teams in a complex matrix environment
- Working in projects that have many complex and/or technical interdependencies
- Technical knowledge and understanding, and the ability to communicate effectively with technical teams
- Demonstrable experience of applying Agile project management techniques to make decisions, solve problems and ensure quality of work
- Experience of ensuring quality of software projects by working with software testing teams and managing software defect resolution
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills and experience in communicating risks, issues, assumptions, dependencies, interdependencies and changes to stakeholders in user friendly language
- Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills with the ability to work proactively with minimal supervision
Desirable
- Experience of working with a wide range of technical and non technical staff to ensure successful outcomes
- Experience of being able to manage difficult stakeholders, navigate ambiguous, changeable, and complex environments to achieve the desired outcomes
- An understanding and/or application of OKR (Objectives & Key Results) Methodology in previous roles are desirable
- Experience of software development management tool such as Jira, Confluence, Smartsheet Excel
