About The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a project team to develop and innovative model for improving access to health services by people with communication disability. It is a collaboration between South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD), Western NSW Local Health District (WNSWLHD) and the University of Sydney. The Project Manager position is based in SWSLHD and is responsible for the implementation of the project in both SWSLHD and in WNSWLHD. The Project Manager supervises a Project Officer and Communication Clinical Specialist in each local health district, and will work with an Evaluation Officer in the University of Sydney.

What you'll be doing

The Project Manager will lead the development and implementation of the “Communication for Safe Care” project across South Western Sydney LHD (SWSLHD) and Western NSW LHD (WNSWLHD) and work collaboratively with the research and Work Integrated Learning project partners in the University of Sydney. The Project Manager will lead the project team across SWSLHD and WNSWLHD to develop, implement and evaluate a program of sustainable capacity building for health care workers and health environments to effectively support people with communication disability.

The “Communication for Safe Care” project is an NDIS Informational Linkages and Capacity Building funded project. It will develop and pilot a model for capacity building HCWs, developing accessible communication environments and creating capability to meet the needs of people with communication disability. The goal is to create communication accessible environments where people with communication disability will be supported to have more effective communication exchanges in a health care setting with a view to increasing engagement and giving them more choice and control over their own health care; thus improving the quality and safety of the health care provided. The project will involve health professional students in a deliberate and planned way to a) enhance project reach and impact and b) develop the skills of the future health workforce.

How to Apply

To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the selection criteria as thoroughly as possible. * Relevant tertiary qualifications in a health profession or social sciences (or relevant work experience) and experience implementing the principles of communication access for people with communication disability.

Previous change management and high-level project management experience involving development, monitoring and evaluation of project plans.

Proven staff management and leadership experience in a large and complex organisation.

Demonstrated experience in effective negotiation and communication skills across a range of stakeholders.

Demonstrated ability to work with people with communication disabilities, families, carers and health care professionals, with knowledge of issues facing these stakeholders in metropolitan and rural communities.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and highly developed and effective management skills.

High level computer skills including the Microsoft Office suite as well as an understanding of different methods of training delivery.

Current unrestricted Australian drivers licence (P2 Licence Acceptable) subject to obtaining NSW drivers licence within 3 months of appointment, and the willingness to travel to locations across SWSLHD and across NSW.
