The team
Major Works is the major brownfield construction hub at Sydney Trains. Providing Engineering and Maintenance work across the Sydney Trains Network. There are over 1000 staff in the directorate which operate in a fast paced multi-disciplinary project environment.
The opportunity
We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Project Controller/Quantity Surveyor to join our Major Works team and work on a range rail delivery projects. The primary purpose of the role is to provide commercial support to the scoping, planning and delivery of projects, including estimating, variation and contract management, cost control, analysis and reporting. As well as strategic commercial support in contracting and delivery this will include detailed estimating and cost control functions in relation to Sydney Trains projects.
You will work closely with various internal and external stakeholders to coordinate consistency across the portfolio and collect accurate and up-to-date information. You will enjoy making a real difference for the people of NSW, ensuring that we deliver on our commitment to community value.
Key accountabilities include:
Create opportunities to consider alternative commercial proposals that provide greater value and minimise commercial risk.
Create Work Breakdown Structures from the project scope and program to allow effective control cost management and facilitate effective forecasting.
Develop, manage and implement functions for the assessment and management of variations to project time, cost and quality to drive improved commerciality
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have an established commercial management skill set and proven experience in project scoping and methodology. You will be experienced in estimating and using QS System processes and software for multi-discipline projects, preferably in major infrastructure or transport fields. You will also have tertiary Qualifications in Quantity Surveying or Engineering with a minimum of 5 years recent experience in an Estimating, Contracting or Commercial Management environment.
Most importantly, you will be an effective team player who is solutions focused and able to communicate effectively with stakeholders to approach various challenges as they arise. You would need to have strong organisational skills with the ability to be flexible, as well as an ability to prioritise and deliver task outputs in a timely manner.
