Job Description

About us

Transport for NSW keeps our State moving by providing safe, integrated and efficient transport systems. We put our customers at the centre of everything we do – and we do a lot. We connect people, communities and industry and manage how they use our road, rail and maritime networks and services, and even active modes like walking and cycling. The work we do connects the journeys you take every day.

We are a state government organisation made up of more than 28,000 people and we're in the middle of delivering the largest transport infrastructure program in Australia's history. We work across planning, policy and procurement, harnessing data and technology to develop smarter and more adaptive transport solutions.

That means job opportunities in metropolitan and regional areas right across NSW – you have the chance to be part of creating a lasting legacy that will benefit generations to come.

The Division

The Regional and Outer Metropolitan division is focused on understanding the particular needs of regional communities across NSW and delivering customer-centred integrated transport services and infrastructure.

The Networks and Assets Branch looks after the assets that connect our communities and their purpose is to make regional and out metropolitan NSW a better place to live, work and visit.

The opportunity

We have an exciting full time permanent opportunity for a Project/Contact Manager to join the Maintenance and Delivery - Project Services West team, located in the West region and specifically focused on the Central West of NSW.

Project Services West are part of the Maintenance and Delivery section of the Network and Assets Branch. This is a newly formed team that offers the successful candidate extensive support, training to deliver an interesting and varied project workload.

We are the front door for the development of construction and maintenance projects that concern the road and bridge assets within the West Region’s Transport Network. For this reason, our program of work is over $120M annually and requires the collective skillset of professional engineers to ensure that our customer impact is minimised by being safe, smart, and fast in our project management. We need to be agile, creative, and innovative to develop the sustainable solutions necessary for a resilient network. Our workbook ranges from technically challenging slope stability projects, road construction and maintenance projects including major pavement rehabilitations, complex road safety/traffic management-related projects including urban intersection reconfigurations and signalisation, and complex bridge demolition and construction staging and initial sealing projects hat ensure that connections between remote communities are enhanced.

As a Project Contract/Manager you will be responsible for project development and delivery, management, and implementation of bridge and road infrastructure and maintenance projects to achieve Transport for NSW and Government road safety, asset management and network efficiency objectives.

Reporting to the Senior Project Manager (East Precinct) you will be primarily responsible for the development and delivery of slope stability, bridge, and road maintenance and construction projects.

This will include:

facilitating safety in design and constructability workshops and,

ensuring engagement of diverse and passionate stakeholder groups including rural communities, businesses, and freight customers.

The execution of these duties will require travel around the region to develop high quality connections throughout the project development and delivery cycle.

You will also support the Senior Project Manager with the development and delivery of other upcoming projects across the West Region and within the East Precinct. You will be entrusted with managing project delivery processes including the engagement and management of external contractors and Council Delivery Partners (RMCC Contract) to ensure highway maintenance and construction projects are developed and delivered to agreed time, cost, quality, and scope requirements. The role may also involve tendering and site supervision of road construction, slope stability, and bridge rehabilitation and replacement projects as the nominated TfNSW representative or an authorised delegate under major GC21 conditions of contract at sites throughout the West Region.

What you will be involved in

Leading multidisciplinary project teams to drive and deliver project objectives and targets by modelling high performance behaviours including teamwork, initiative, and flexibility, and developing less experienced team members through mentoring and coaching.

Building and maintaining effective working relationships and collaborate with our customers, colleagues, stakeholders, and partners to understand and manage risk and influence sustainable outcomes on projects by the development and implementation of effective stakeholder and community involvement plans.

About you

To be considered for this role you will have tertiary qualifications in civil/structural engineering and be able to demonstrate experience capacity working across various large-scale road and bridge development projects with exposure to collaborating with a broad spectrum of stakeholders including all levels of government, agencies, and consultants.

You will be a proactive analytical thinker and possess high level communication skills. The ability to astutely manage time, delegate and work collaboratively and closely with stakeholders to deliver is paramount as is your dedicated commitment to safety and quality.
