Job Description

We are excited to announce we are recruiting for an Estate Transformation Programme Manager to join us for 15 months to cover Maternity, from November 2021. 

This is a great role for someone who already has a good knowledge of or wants to expand their knowledge of a retail business and learn about the different functions.  The role provides many development and networking opportunities for someone looking to advance their career. This is also a very satisfying job because you can see the results of our work in the transformed stores, the motivated teams and the transformed sales and profit performance. 

Key Accountabilities:

Process

  • Work with project/workstream leaders to oversee all processes relating to smooth openings and closing of stores on the store development programme, and work with key stakeholders to continuously improve them.

  • Maintain and update the programme management documents and trackers, which are used by many functions. Update key stakeholders of changes to the programme in a timely manner and manage any risks that arise as a result of changes. 

  • Ensure the governance process for all new and refit stores is followed through end to end.  Facilitate these meetings by preparing agendas and trackers, capturing next steps and ensuring follow through on actions.

  • Maintain the key documents for planning, doing and reviewing the store development programme.   

Organise and facilitate key meetings - ensure follow through of actions

  • Store Opening Meeting (weekly)

  • Cost Call (weekly)

  • Snagging updates (weekly)

  • Store Development Group Meeting (fortnightly)

  • SDG  agenda prep (weekly) 

  • Site and Block Meeting (fortnightly)

  • Candidate Selection Meeting (Ad hoc)

  • Property Working Group Meeting (Monthly)

  • Estate Transformation Financial Review (Monthly) - performance

  • Estate Transformation Programme Review (Monthly) - shape of the estate

  • Underperformance reviews (as required)

  • PIR (Post Implementation Reviews) - as required

Communication 

  • Monthly updates at the Marketing Breakfast meetings on the programme and year ahead. May include any new initiatives 

  • Updates at the Business Briefing when required

  • Support Centre induction presentation on new format programme- monthly 

  • Fortnightly email to the Board and other key stakeholders on the progress of the programme 

  • Other communications as required.  e.g. updates and changes to the programme

Data and Performance Tracking

  • Maintain key databases of store information for candidate selection.  (Vlookup skills are helpful for this)

  • Develop the reporting and performance review of refit and new stores with finance

  • Work with stakeholders to identify and address performance opportunities and issues

Other

  • Write Wickes Property Board papers (usually monthly) to obtain financial sign off for refits. Will require working with Finance and Operations to obtain numbers and insight on key topics for the paper

  • Work with Commercial to identify new initiatives or Range Reviews to land in refit and new stores

  • Ad hoc projects as required part of format development 

What are we looking for:

  • School or college education

  • Project management experience

  • Cross functional working with different groups of stakeholders.

  • Minimum 2 years work experience

  • Retail  (DIY & Home Improvement) experience and an interest in the products and services Wickes sells

  • Proficient in Excel/Google Sheets and Google Docs

  • Fast and accurate typing and google sheets skills for capturing next steps and updating documents during meetings.

  • Good communication and influencing skills.  Written and verbal.  Experience of working at all levels with in the business

  • Ability to achieve results through stakeholder engagement and management.  And by asking the right questions.

  • Confidence to work with all levels and all functions in the business.
