Job Description

The Programme Accountant is the key point of contact for the programme and provides accurate and consistent financial information and advice to Managers that supports the budgeting, forecasting and reporting process. 

This role will initially support the Forestry ETS (Emissions Trading Scheme) Transformation Programme for Te Uru Rākau – New Zealand Forest Service. The Forestry ETS Transformation Programme is responsible for designing the services required to support the legislative process and implement new regulations. A programme team has been established to identify a solution going forward that covers both business requirements and technology needs.

This is a great opportunity to work on one of Governments largest active technology related Business Transformation Programmes supporting New Zealand's Climate Change Response. You will work with experienced programme team members to develop project and programme skills, you will have an opportunity to working with and advising Governance Board and executive teams, which is a good steppingstone to a Finance Business Partner position.

As the Programme Accountant you'll play a key role within the programme. As part of the Capital and Project Accounting team within Finance, you'll support the Programme Director, Change Manager and Project Managers to manage, monitor and report on capital and operating expenditure. This role is permanent. 

Mōu | About You

As qualified accountant you'll understand programme planning, programme budgetary processes and systems relating to programme performance, reporting and governance.  You'll have experience on large scale programme/projects as a lead accountant (or equivalent business expertise and experience).

You'll also have:

  • Experience in analysing technical issues and making business decisions
  • Experience in business engagement and providing financial services
  • The ability to influence others
  • Experience in managing relationships
  • Be customer focused and able to work collaboratively within and across teams

Additionally, experience in Central Government financial management processes and procedures and knowledge of Finance One would be an advantage
