Role Purpose
Production Support Engineers play a pivotal role in achieving synchronization across IPT functions with the aim of ensuring that products are delivered seamlessly, on time and in-line with the highest quality standards. They are responsible for the day-to-day fault analysis across numerous Weapons CAS platforms. They are the first point of contact for Operations regarding all test and build issues. Production Support Engineers work within an integrated team of engineers across multiple disciplines and interact with numerous customers and suppliers.
The Production Support Engineering role requires an enthusiastic, methodical individual reporting to the Sustaining Engineering Manager for a unique position within the Weapons CAS UK organization based at Collins Aerospace Wolverhampton to work within the OE manufacturing area. The individual will be required to ensure anomaly or failure issues are identified to root cause through methodical engineering disciplines within the Company and Customer requirements, enabling corrective actions to be put in place and units returned back to OE production.
Key Responsibilities
Investigate root cause failures and work with engineering teams to identify design changes
Lead diagnostic efforts with the end goals of automating the diagnosis and resolving the issue at the source
Develop diagnostic procedures and standard work
Provide training to manufacturing
Identify and implement efficiency improvements
Develop and strong and positive relationship with all internal and external customers
Meet all internal, regulatory and customer requirements
Act as a point of contact between manufacturing and engineering teams.
Generate or support failure reporting or non-compliance paperwork.
From time to time the role may require additional activities to be carried out beyond the above: training will be provided if this is required.
Skills and Experience
Excellent communication skills
Strong understanding of electrical systems, mechanical control systems and test equipment
Ability to understand test and troubleshoot complicated system interactions
Degree in Electronic Engineering, Control Systems Engineering or equivalent
Greater than 5+ years’ experience in Aerospace engineering
Ability to effectively interface with a wide range of professionally qualified external / internal business disciplines
Highly motivated individual: able to “make things happenâ€
Structured and organized; good planning, reporting and communication skills – able to manage multiple tasks
Rapid learner who thrives in a fast-paced environment
Excellent working knowledge of MS office applications
Desirable qualifications include:
Possess or be able to gain a thorough understanding of IPT structure and NPI processes
Be comfortable with operating in a multi-site working environment (working with other Collins sites)
Ability to build relationships with key stakeholders across the IPT/business.
Ability to work independently, be self-motivated
Understand the importance of working to timescales and deadlines
Be an excellent communicator across a variety of medias
Commercial awareness so that risks and opportunities can be prioritized
