We are a Canberra based Ag-Tech startup looking for a Production Manager to join our insect production team working between our Sydney and Canberra sites.

Goterra designs and builds modular robotic infrastructure that uses insects to manage food waste. With support from high profile impact investors we are building our business to deliver our innovative waste systems to markets on a global scale.

The Production Manager is a senior member of a multidisciplinary team applying expertise in agriculture, biology, software, electronics, and engineering to provide infrastructure solutions to solve the problems of food waste and climate change. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Providing oversight, analysis and direction of production functions for commercial farming of Black Soldier Fly and mealworms;

Executing biological research and innovation in insect production to meet commercial objectives;

Management and oversight of processes and systems for the processing of food waste using insects and the generation of commodity products (frass and insect protein) including quality assurance;

Driving improvements in processes and procedures to increase efficiency and productivity of waste processing and commercial insect farming

Leading and managing Goterra’s production team to improve production outcomes

Developing systems to forecast, plan, manage and analyse data for insect breeding including designing production metrics and targets.

Planning and managing insect production activities to meet targets and customer commitments with regard to output, quality, cost, time and staffing; and

Managing the development of the company’s insect production capability to meet strategic growth objectives

Requirements

The successful candidate:

Will be passionate about Goterra’s mission and enthusiastic about a career in insect farming

Has 3 + years’ previous management experience in commercial insect production

Holds a relevant Bachelor degree in Biology, Agriculture or similar field

Has proven success leading a team in a commercial insect facility in a Production Management role

Is a strong leader with the skills and ability necessary to motivate staff to consistently meet and exceed expectations

Has experience working in a Production management position with Black Soldier Flies and/or Mealworms in a commercial and/or research environment

Has a strategic mindset and a passion for driving sustainability in the insect farming industry

Can demonstrate proven success driving operational excellence through continuous improvement

Has demonstrated strong skills in communicating complex issues with a diverse range of stakeholders

Has the capability to multitask effectively under pressure

Shows team player attitude, sharing information and assisting others to achieve common objectives
