About this role

Directory Solutions provides an aggregator service that collates all telephone directory information from the full range of UK Communication Providers, including BT. It then ensures such information is available to all licenced providers, including BTs 118 500 and Phone Book products.

As the Public Switched Telephone Network comes to an end in 2025 to be replaced by IP telephony products, the role will become ever more interesting and challenging, with directory listings no longer having fixed geographical area codes or location settings. Without a robust service however, establishing contact numbers or providing key information to organisations reliant on the data for, eg, determining viability for credit, will become increasingly difficult.

You'll have the following responsibilities

There are two main purposes to this role. The first is to run the end to end Directory Solutions business. Directory Soultuions is a self contained ring fenced team, so most activities are managed in house e.g. supplier relationship management, product management, on boarding new customers and Communication Providers, P&L, all contract and licence agreements. Examples of exceptions are Legal and Procurement.

The second is the management of the Directories data team responsible for the management of Directory Information for BT Customers and, as a supplier to Openreach, management of Directory Information for other Openreach WLR Customers. 

The role holder will also be an expert in the directory market with an excellent understanding of all aspects of supplying name, address and telephone numbers for directory products and services.  They will also understand the dynamics of the downstream market e.g. what products and services are available, where the market is going, who the key players are and what they require from the product in the future.  They will be able to utilise this knowledge for the benefit of the Directory Solutions business, recognising opportunities and providing direction within the product area, ensuring any development is in line with the market requirements.

You'll have the following skills & experience

Ability to learn fast, with good people management skills.

A good understanding of regulatory compliance & knowledge of Data Protection legislation.

Contract negotiation/Procurement process experience.

Ability to quickly understand processes, procedures and system tools.

A good understanding of the directories market place.
