Job Description

Job Introduction

BBC England, one of the four BBC Nations, is re-inventing its TV offer for the audience. As part of that creative refresh, we are launching a brand-new current affairs series on BBC One in January 2022 and we are recruiting a dynamic, creative and diverse team to help us.

The team will be based in six regional hubs across England and will be run by an executive team at the series headquarters in Birmingham.

The ambition is for a new series with high production values, popular appeal, warmth, accessibility and investigative journalism - with a clear, contemporary visual style.

We are seeking individuals with the skills to help us deliver great content, maximise the impact of that content, and a commitment to understanding and reflecting the stories and experiences of our diverse audience in England.

Role Responsibility

You will have responsibility for the creation of a number of 30min films a year.

You will have control over every aspect of production, creating an environment where the talents of those on and off-screen can flourish.

We expect our producers to lead, motivate and support the team, ensuring that the editorial vision is communicated and understood, developing and managing positive working relationships.

You will be accountable for the compliance and delivery of content, acting within BBC Editorial, Legal and Health & Safety guidelines and, where relevant, liaising with our Rights teams to ensure copyright and contracts adhere to BBC regulations.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for long-form current affairs and/or factual TV filmmakers with a track record of producing distinctive content  – an autonomous, creative self-starter who can develop a film from conception to delivery on time and on budget.

You will need sound journalistic skills and instincts, a creative vision/ambition, and experience of influencing, negotiating, and communicating effectively with a wide range of people including talent.

You should be experienced at every level of production and have specialist production knowledge with the proven ability to shoot (to broadcast standard) and edit (to rough cut standard) using a range of tools/kit.

You should have the initiative, tenacity and ability to see how your work fits in with the wider needs of the team whilst bringing out creative ideas in others and have the proven ability to lead, inspire and motivate all members of the team through various stages of the production process.

We have a commitment to making a better culture at the BBC and will be looking for individuals to demonstrate how they identify with the BBC employee commitments and values.
