Job Description

An opportunity for a Procurement Advisor is now on offer to join the Property and Procurement team within Corporate Services based in our Wellington Customhouse building.

The Property and Procurement team provides property and procurement lifecycle management from inception, planning, project management, delivery and planning and analytics and is responsible for providing advice and support to ensure that Customs can demonstrate compliance with Government procurement and property policies, rules and guidelines.

The Procurement Advisor will be responsible for providing support and guidance to Customs staff in relation to the use of the procurement function within the Finance Management Information System (Ahumoni).

This role will provide input into the development and delivery of Customs procurement by contributing to smaller pieces of work and assisting with larger more complex procurement projects where others have accountability for the delivery of outputs.

To be successful as the Procurement Advisor, you require the following knowledge, experience, skills and personal attributes:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience in a related role;
  • Strong written and verbal skills, with the ability to communicate issues and concepts clearly, succinctly and with influence;
  • Some experience in developing policy advice and/or good research and information/data analysis skills;
  • Ability to think critically and analytically;
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to and work within a team;
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, including ability to prioritise tasks effectively and work under pressure.

As part of the recruitment process, you will need to obtain and maintain an organisational level security clearance. To obtain security clearance, you need to be:

  • a New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in New Zealand for the last 5 years and resides in NZ at time of application; 
  • OR a New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident who has resided in New Zealand for the last 5 years and resides in NZ at time of application, but may have been absent from New Zealand for periods of six or more months within the past 5 years, preferably in one or more of the following countries: *either Australia, Canada, UK or the USA. Small periods (3 months or less) of absence from New Zealand over the 5 years may still be acceptable however you must be able to provide police certificates for time spent in other countries*. 

Due to the nature of Customs work the successful applicant must have a clean Police record and pass a drug test before being offered the job.

COVID-19 Vaccination requirement: All employees are required to be vaccinated in line with our Vaccination Policy. New employees will be required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination prior to commencing employment.
