Job Description

Azure Edge + Platform brings together Edge platforms, devices, and services to deliver Edge solutions, operating systems, and engineering systems. Driven by its customers’ needs, Azure Edge + Platform seeks to accelerate growth for Azure, E&D, and Microsoft’s customers worldwide.

The organization’s portfolio spans the Cloud Edge Stack, Azure Engineering Systems, Azure Media Services - for end-to-end media workflow and analytics - and Microsoft’s Operating Systems including the Azure Host OS and Windows. This portfolio impressively powers the world with more than one billion monthly active devices.

Are you passionate about Linux, Kubernetes, and distributed systems? Do you want to be part of a high-energy and creative team that is currently building the future of Azure connected Edge platforms? Do you love to contribute to Linux and other opensource communities across the globe? We are the Core OS Linux Group at Microsoft. We recently open sourced our internal Microsoft Linux distribution, CBL-Mariner GitHub for Azure 1P services and edge appliances which is now used by products across AKS-HCI, EFLOW, Azure Percept, WSL etc. We’re growing, and we’re adding Principal developers to lead the technology direction as we deliver a wide range of functionality based on Linux into the Azure cloud and Edge platforms.

In this role, you will contribute to the technical direction in how Azure first party services and edge appliances come together to create a Kubernetes distributed edge platform, ready for powering the needs across various sectors – from 5G telco to Industry 4.0 and Manufacturing. You will coordinate design and coding across multiple projects, partnering with internal teams in multiple geographies.  You will work closely with the broader CNCF and Linux community, contributing code upstream.  And you will work closely with customers to fix problems encountered in using Linux in the Azure cloud and edge platforms.
