The Quality Practice & Experiences group ensures that there is consistent quality professional practice across Oranga Tamariki and the broader children's workforce to improve the outcomes for children and young people. The Oranga Tamariki Royal Commission Response team sits within this business group in the Reviews Management Team.

This role will provide strategic policy advice and support to the Royal Commission Response Team and the wider agency in response to  the findings and recommendations of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Historic Abuse of Children in State Care commences (the Royal Commission).

Principal Advisor Policy and Strategic Support - Oranga Tamariki Royal Commission Response
The purpose of the Principal Advisor Policy and Strategic Support, Oranga Tamariki Royal Commission Response position is to provide support, analysis and advice on Oranga Tamariki's response to the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Historic Abuse of Children in State Care and faith-based institutions.

The Principal Advisor will take a lead role in the policy and strategic work for the Oranga Tamariki Response Team. You will work closely with internal stakeholders and other participating Ministries to prepare for the Royal Commission's Crown Accountability Hearing and contribute to the redress work.

You will have:
• Have a strong policy background.
• Experience in conducting reviews and investigations.
• Experience in report writing and the ability to produce high quality work
• Ability to develop effective partnerships and maintain relationships through excellent communication with multiple stakeholders from a range of cultures, specialist backgrounds and agencies

Responsibilities

• Oversight of the workstreams and working groups within the Royal Commission Response space including.
• Support the day-to-day leadership of the team and administration of work
• Share the leadership of programme control meetings, fortnightly response team meetings and stand-up
• Lead internal stakeholder engagement for work items
• Support for hearings work for key investigation areas
• Report to Chief Advisor on program risks, RC response decisions, strategic planning, and reporting
• Attendance at some governance and IAG meetings
• Drafting papers, reports and responses as required
• Share lead on pre-hearing requests such as witness statements and disclosures
• Document review and data analysis
• Working with the Chief Advisor and the other Principal Advisor to decide key priorities
• Participation in cross agency initiatives and working groups to enable Oranga Tamariki in supporting the effective operation of the Inquiry
• Proactively identify and manage any implications and requirements for Oranga Tamariki
• Develop good relationships within the team and provide support to team members.
• Engage positively with members of the Royal Commission.
• Good understanding of the key themes and issues coming out of the Inquiry and the potential implications for the organisation
