The Principal Advisor - Strategic Planning role fits within the Strategy, Finance and Policy Group which functions to support Kāinga Ora to understand its strategic context and drivers, and influences the organisation's key settings. It articulates the organisation's direction in line with the outcomes it is trying to achieve. 

Ko tā mātou mahi - Our Role 

The Principal Advisor - Strategic Planning is primarily responsible for leading the strategic alignment of the regional planning process, the delivery of Regional Plans, and the stewardship of our planning intentions. 

The role will be a key conduit and influencer to ensure regional plans and investments align with government and strategic outcomes, respond effectively to place-based challenges, contributing to portfolio planning prioritisation and influencing central policy change when required.

You will need to be highly capable at building and maintaining relationships to work collaboratively across many individuals and teams at Kāinga Ora. You will need to integrate the regional planning process within our annual planning and budgeting cycle, including the development and continual improvement of tools that enable the delivery of high quality regional plans.

  • A relevant tertiary qualification or demonstrated related experience
  • Significant experience in aligning strategy and operational activities within organisational constraints
  • Demonstrated understanding of and experience in investment frameworks and investment decision making processes
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, collect, organise and analyse complex data to clearly and concisely convey information to inform, enable and influence decision-making
  • Proven ability to persuade and influence senior stakeholders
  • Highly developed interpersonal relationship and communication skills at all levels within an organisation and able to instil trust in others
  • Working knowledge of Public sector structure, governance, processes and systems
  • Highly developed skills to clearly and concisely convey information and ideas in both oral and written form
