Role Responsibility

You’ll work alongside journalists, content makers and technologists to generate, deliver and store BBC content to standards the rest of the creative industries aspire to.

Analyse source materials and content, working to specific technical standards to assess the quality and correct issues. You’ll often handle sensitive materials and work under tight deadlines to support the world’s biggest public service broadcaster.

Combine your technical skills with your creative eye, to carry out post production jobs including editing, audio mixing and colour grading. 

You'll study for an L4 (HNC equivalent) apprenticeship qualification from London Southbank University and The Institute of Apprenticeships in Technical Education. You’ll complete specialist modules such as:  

• Video technology  
• Audio technology  
• Metadata and timecode  
• Codecs and files 
• Edit assistant operations 
• Troubleshooting 
• Networks and storage 
• Data confirming and finishing  
• Quality control 
• Legacy technology and archive material 
• Working practices

The Ideal Candidate

To be eligible for this apprenticeship, you must:

• Be aged 18 or over when the course starts in September 2022
• Have completed a L3 qualification in a media technology related subject (L3 is A levels/BTEC or equivalent)
• Have maths and English GCSEs or Standard (Scotland) at 9-4 (A-C) or equivalent
• Be legally allowed to work in the UK
• Have lived in the UK, Ireland or the European Economic Area (EEA), for at least three years before the start of the apprenticeship. Or have either pre-settled or settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme and lived in the UK, EEA or Gibraltar for at least three years.

We’ll ask you to give examples to show you’re:

• Technically minded, with a good understanding of the role
• Show an interest/experience in filming, recording sound and editing
• Fascinated by how broadcasters generate, manipulate, reversion and archive content (audio, video and graphic)
• Able to efficiently multitask and work under pressure
• Good at communicating and collaborating with people
• A natural problem solver.

Don’t worry if you don’t have an extensive CV. You can share examples of your passion for post production from anywhere. That might be other work experience, your time in education or volunteering.

Study for your L4 Post Production Apprenticeship (HNC equivalent), while developing your creative skills in assessing, correcting, re-versioning and storing content across BBC formats.
