About team

The Safety, Environment and Regulation (SER) division leads policy, strategy, standards, advice and support across safety, environment, sustainability, asset management and regulatory outcomes for customers, community, and our people (including contractors).  SER provides ‘centres of excellence’ with a critical mass of expertise to support line accountability, facilitate consistency and provide assurance across the transport. This role sits within Transport safety security and Emergency management, Level crossing improvement program.

 

 

The opportunity

Right now, we have an opportunity for a Policy Officer to join us in the Level Crossing improvement program team within the Transport Safety Security and Emergency management branch.

 

This role coordinates and undertakes policy development, providing analysis and advice, to support the development of a range of policy initiatives and reforms related to level crossing safety in NSW and contributes to the delivery of policy commitments that support organisational objectives and advocate for the interests for NSW.

You will undertake research and analysis, reviewing alternatives relating to policy deliverables, to contribute to the policy process and inform decision-making.

 

You will provide a range of secretarial support services, including preparation of discussion papers, meeting minutes, filing and briefs and submissions for meetings, to contribute to the development and delivery of policy initiatives.

Employment Type: Permanent Full-Time, Grade 7

 

Research, analyse and develop sound policy submissions, advice and draft legislation to enable informed decision making on strategic and operational matters

Prepare information for Ministerial, Cabinet or Departmental requests for information

Proactively identify research and analyse policy options and emerging issues relating to level crossing safety in NSW

Interpret and advise on statutory requirements guidelines, policy and procedures for rail and road governance and safety

Contribute to project and policy development and implementation across a range of transport matters

Maintain awareness of policy and processes at State and National levels that may affect the work, priorities and direction of Transport for NSW

Organise and provide secretariat support for meetings, including the provision of accurate and timely meeting and policy papers.

Organise and provide briefing papers, speaking notes and associated background material for the Chief, CRSMS to represent TfNSW on the NLCSC

Represent Transport for NSW, the Division and Branch on government and industry working groups, committees as directed

Work collaboratively with other Divisions, Operating Agencies and stakeholder groups to allow effective communication and exchange of information in relation to policy development and project work.

About you

 

You have experience in performing a range of policy or policy-related co-ordination activities, and given competing demands and priorities, the ability to adapt and assimilate information quickly.

 

You have worked in a team environment to tight deadlines and have a successful track record in helping deliver organisational outcomes. 

 

You are flexible, with the ability to adapt to a changing and sometimes uncertain environment.  In return, we’ll give you the autonomy to independently assess priorities and make decisions around how to structure your workload.

 

Crucial to your success in this role will be your excellent stakeholder management skills, keen eye for detail and your secretarial skills.

 

 

Salary and Benefits 

 

The salary for this position is Grade 7 ($106,086 - $118,816) per annum plus superannuation and leave loading
