We are looking for an organised and motivated individual to join DOC/ Te Papa Atawhai as our Personal Assistant to the Deputy-Director General, Biodiversity.  If you have a passion for providing quality executive administration support and feel connected to our united purpose Papatūānuku Thrives, we want to hear from you!

He angitūtanga: About the Role

As our Personal Assistant, you will be the Deputy-Director General's (DDG) right-hand person, providing day-to day support, working to a high level of professionalism and discretion. This role requires someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, can quickly adjust to different workflows and prioritise several tasks at any one time.

You will play an integral part of the Biodiversity Group, who have ambitious, multi-faceted work programmes that include focus on delivering conservation outcomes in accordance with Te Mana o Te Taiao - Aotearoa New Zealand Biodiversity Strategy Aotearoa and the national Predator Free 2050 Strategy. 

In this reactive, challenging and rewarding role, your responsibilities will include:

  • PA and administration support duties to the DDG such as email/diary management, meeting facilitation and travel coordination.
  • Assist, coordinate and quality assurance of complex and urgent correspondence such as Parliamentary briefs, Ministers reports, Ministerial and OIA requests.
  • Organise, attend and track actions for meetings.
  • Utilise your excellent customer service and communication skills to build relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop innovative ideas and approaches to working where necessary.

He kōrero mōu: What we are looking for

We are seeking a confident and organised Personal Assistant professional who has a passion for achieving greater conservation outcomes. We want to hear from you if you have:

  • Prior PA and/or administration experience in a complex environment.
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills, including editing/proof reading
  • An ability to use your initiative and independent judgement to deal with critical tasks.
  • Professional interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with key stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage the shifting priorities of the DDG and adjust own priorities accordingly.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and organisational skills, with the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Digitally savvy with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Flexible, forward thinking, enthusiastic and confident attitude.

Desirable skills and experience:

  • An understanding of Tikanga Māori and Te Ao Māori or a willingness to engage would be highly beneficial.
  • Politically agile with an understanding of government systems and environment is desirable.

Salary Range $61,916 up to $79,115. Starting salary of the successful candidate will be based on their relevant skills and experience.

Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory - this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
