About the team 

The Strategy, Portfolio and Investment (SP&I) branch leads Sydney Trains - Strategy and Planning, Investment Management, Enterprise Portfolio Management, and Network Growth Portfolio as well as Reporting, Analytics and Insights Team. 

The branch is accountable for setting the Sydney Trains strategy and managing investment priorities, funding, and allocations. It provides best practice project management services across the business while delivering large scale, enterprise-wide programs of work to achieve the long-term strategic objectives of Sydney Trains. 

The opportunity 

The Head of Reporting; Analytics and Insights leads a team of 100+ FTE who provide enterprise data governance, storage, production, translation, insights, and reporting for the wider business.  The key responsibility is to ensure acceptable service delivery levels are being met and quality products and services are delivered to internal customers. 

The role strategically supports RA&I investment decisions, setting guidelines and principles for the correct use of data, managing resource prioritisation and deployment, as well as developing capabilities across all resources in the end-to-end Reporting, Analytics and Insights (RA&I) value chain. 

The key responsibility is to lead business engagement, uplift capability, leverage the invested applications and data warehouse environment, set principles and guidelines for correct use of data, manage resource prioritisation and deployment, and manage the delivery of business demand efficiency and effectively. 

As Head of Reporting, Analytics & Insights you will be expected to: 

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to understand business value and drive delivery
  • Communicate with the business to drive collaboration and enhance knowledge sharing across the organisation
  • Build and promote a data and insights culture
  • Enforce and maintain oversight of organisation data business rules, standards, measures, metrics and terminology, and ensure consistent and appropriate use of data.
  • Determine opportunities to enhance value and improve the operation of function.
  • Train and upskill new and existing R&A resources to enhance organizational capability.
  • Determine optimum allocation of reporting and analysis resources based on value and business need.
  • Evaluate and prioritise R&A requests and resources and determine the cost of delivery and feasibility of value propositions.

About you

  • Proven experience with stakeholder/client engagement and demonstrated commitment to customer centricity.
  • You have been or are a custodian for an organisation on all data sets.
  • Proven experience managing Reporting, Analytics and Insights function.
  • Strong background knowledge in data and analytics.
  • Tertiary qualification/s in a related field.
  • Experience working through organisational transformations and during times of fast paced change.
