About us

CADS are the largest Alcohol and other Drugs (AOD) service in New Zealand working with over 15000 people each year. CADS provide free community and inpatient AOD treatment from a number of locations across Auckland. CADS are committed to empowering the community to discover healthier use of substances (harm minimisation) and to promote recovery and wellbeing. 

About the team

The Pregnancy and Parenting Service (PPS) is a mobile, outreach service for people who are:

  • • Pregnant and/or a parent of children under 3 years of age regardless of custody issues: 
  • • with harmful use of alcohol and/or other drugs 
  • • and poorly connected to health and/or social services 
  • • PPS is a multidisciplinary team, consisting of AOD clinicians, social workers, midwives, psychologists and psychiatrist

About you

Essential

A Peer Support Worker (PSW) is someone with their own lived experience of recovery from alcohol and drugs who is now able to encourage and inspire other people in their own recovery journey. Our PSW works alongside PPS clinicians to provide individualised support to our clients by developing strong, supportive and equitable relationships. You need a strong sense of social justice and to enjoy working with people in all their complexity. You will have a non-judgemental attitude, excellent engagement and communication skills, and an ability to work autonomously within a team.

For this role you need:

  • Personal experience of using alcohol and other drug services and of recovery
  • Knowledge of consumer issues as they relate to our clients
  • Full, clean drivers licence
  • Legal right to work in NZ
  • Ability to implement Te Tiriti O Waitangi in your daily work

Preferred

  • Training and/or experience in Peer support or related work
  • Able to comfortably work with other health and social service providers including Family Start, Oranga Tamariki, Kainga Ora and other community based NGO’s
