Job Description

The Microsoft US Payroll team is looking for an experienced Operations Process Manager with a strong working knowledge in multi-state payroll tax reporting, operations, and vendor governance. 

The US Payroll Team is responsible for timely and accurate payroll processing and tax funding for Microsoft’s 90,000+ US employees throughout all 50 states.  This position requires a US Payroll subject matter expert with a thorough understanding of multi-state payroll processes and tax compliance, proven analytical and communications skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a US Payroll Tax subject matter expert, focused on operations execution (either inhouse or outsource).
  • Vendor management: Manage vendor relationships with a focus on issue resolution, expectation setting, and planning. Track vendor performance through service level agreements, metrics, and scorecards. Assess vendor performance at a regular cadence.
  • Manage day to day processing of payroll tax funding, ensuring compliance for payroll tax remittance and reporting to the Federal, State, and Local tax authorities.
  • Work closely with US Payroll Tax Manager, Systems, and IT/Digital teams to resolve tax related updates and fixes, coordinate employee communications as needed.
  • Collaborate with US Payroll Tax Manager and/or Corporate Tax on domestic payroll tax reporting and tax audits.
  • Manage W-2 coordination and readiness.
  • Serve as Tier 2 escalation point for employee questions.
  • Operations execution, including completion of semi-monthly and biweekly payroll processing.
  • Coordination and execution of quarterly and annual US payroll operational checkpoints.
  • Anticipate trends and proactively engage in process redesign according to trends, resulting in improving the operational efficiency across business groups.
  • Prepare payroll analyses and scorecard metrics by leveraging established analytics models. Ensure the right information is being collected and reported. Identify gaps in the data, generate hypotheses, and escalate to senior staff for resolution.
  • Actively engage stakeholders to identify opportunities with a business impact, providing payroll expertise for issue resolution. Participate in special projects as needed.
  • Review procedures to ensure they are up-to-date. Create procedures for new processes/changes.
  • Understand and maintain Microsoft’s controls and compliance framework, including Sarbanes-Oxley.

 

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

 

High-school certificate, secondary school, or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, HR, or related field  AND 4+ years of Payroll Operations experience in an enterprise-sized, multi-national company

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Associate degree or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, HR, or related field AND 4+ years of Payroll Operations experience
  • APA Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
  • SAP and multi-state payroll experience
