The Division
The Greater Sydney Division integrates transport modes including trains, metro and buses; critical infrastructure and services to support Sydney’s growing metropolitan population and is projected to swell to over 12 million people within the next 40 years.
The opportunity
We have a temporary fixed-term opportunity for an Operations Planning Manager to join the Chief Operations Office till March 2023. You will manage operational planning activities including multi-modal planning for changes to road and transport networks associated with infrastructure delivery and changes to the transport network in terms of systems and service changes.
What you will be involved in
Forecasting peak demand periods on the network as a result of short-term trip generating activities that occur periodically throughout the year. This role will also be responsible for preparing plans that identify and manage impacts to our customers and coordinate the functioning of the traffic and transport network across New South Wales to enable the efficient movement of goods and people. A positive customer experience and contribution to national, state, and regional economies is the primary purpose of this role.
You will also:
Plan for real-time management of changes to multi-modal transport services in Greater Sydney associated with infrastructure delivery, permanent and temporary changes to networks and services.
Continually scan short term horizons to identify key risks/disrupters to typical customer journey conditions and develop potential operational responses in consultation with other branches within Greater Sydney Operations
Lead the development and review of seasonal plans to ensure that Customer Journey Management/TMC remains in a high state of operational readiness as the state’s centre for transport management and coordination and traffic operations.
Develop operational strategies and plans that take into account the role of the Customer Journey Planning Operational Change with regard to new and emerging technologies, population and demographic growth, government goals, and service partner capacity and capability.
About you
This role operates with a high level of autonomy within the requirements of the agreed work plan and establishes their operational priorities in consultation with the Director Project and Service Changes. You will be fully accountable for the quality, integrity, and accuracy of expert advice provided.
A successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in traffic operations, traffic flow theory, operational planning, data analysis/analytics. Additionally and ideally, you will have a sound understanding of the principles of road design, road network hierarchies, and the ability to interpret the output of road network traffic modeling.
It is essential that as an integral part of a customer-focused part of the business the successful candidate model the five ways of leading behaviours in all aspects of their professional engagement. A willingness to change direction without notice and assist the team with all relevant tasks is expected from the successful candidate.

Salary and Benefits
Transport Grade 9 ($138,670 - $155,309) + Super and employer contributions
