He angitūtanga / The opportunity:

We are currently inviting applications for an experienced Operations Manager to lead our substantial and vital food services at Middlemore hospital, overseeing both patient and retail offerings at the hospital as well as 5 smaller satellite sites that fall under Counties Manukau. 

Ko o kawenga / Your responsibilities:

In this permanent full-time position, you will be managing all aspects of the kitchens and food services, including quality control, staff, health and safety, key performance measures, stakeholder management and food safety compliance. You will ensure your sites are compliant and run commercially in line with financial targets. 

Reporting to the General Manager - Operations, you will be a leader with strong client relationship building and people management skills. You will be an efficient leader with strong knowledge of budgets, financial acumen, and health & safety processes. Being process driven, it would be essential that you identify areas for improvement and work with our teams to implement strategies that will reflect our vision.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • In depth understanding of Occupational Health, Safety and Environment and ability to apply principles.
  • At least 4 years operational experience in a similar role of volume within this or similar industry.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to manage complex Profit & Loss accounts across multiple sites.
  • Ability to manage complex HR issues in a unionised environment.
  • Business or degree qualifications or strong appropriate operational experience and credibility
  • Contract management experience.
  • Thorough comprehension of Food Hygiene practices preferably completed a NZQA Food Handling Certificate (Units 167 & 168).
  • Ability to form productive relationships with clients and individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent analysis and report compilation skills matched with high Software literacy.
  • Able to jump between administrative and hands-on and juggle multiple priorities without losing focus on process and compliance

  • will be a New Zealand citizen or resident or be in position of a valid NZ work visa.
