Job Description

Nautilus Marine Underwriting Agency is an Auckland CBD based underwriting agency offering marine and motorcycle insurance lines across New Zealand via our insurance broker and distribution partners. We are part of the NM Insurance Group who proudly employ over 60 staff across Australia and New Zealand. 

Due to an internal promotion, our business requires a professional, energetic and customer focussed person to support our underwriting team in our fast-growing marine and motorcycle portfolio.

This position is for a full-time Underwriting Support/Administrator to join us based out of our Auckland office. Office hours will be Monday to Friday 8.30am – 5.00pm. 

This role would suit someone who is looking to develop and learn further within the Marine & Motorcycle industry, as this role will be supporting our underwriters. The ideal person will be responsible for insurance placements, office calls, broker/direct queries and assisting with daily internal administrative requirements. This dynamic role is diverse and within a small team, critical that the candidate coming aboard can self-manage their time, be flexible with responsibilities, and have a customer first focus within a compliant, strict set of business standards and controls.

Ideally, the candidate will need to have experience in a customer service / broker facing general insurance roles, preferably with a marine or consumer line history. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwriting and customer support within company underwriting guidelines.
  • Supporting business partners who distribute and negotiate motorcycle and marine lines.
  • Support NZ Manger and underwriting team in achieving set monthly Budget results. 
  • Manage and maintain generic inboxes within company turnaround times.
  • Responding to customer calls and queries into the office.
  • Providing quality service to all client queries through Partners and Direct Clients.
  • Supporting and Dealing with Trans-Tasman offices where required.
  • Processing of Renewals, New Business and Quote requests. 
  • Managing and assisting with referrals from underwriter teams across Australia and New Zealand.
  • Dealing with day-to-day office and administration requirements as set out by NZ Manager.
  • Reporting and promoting potential compliance risks and incidents within our regulatory framework where required.

Key Requirements

  • Sound knowledge of the general insurance industry and underwriting procedures/principals with min 2 years’ experience preferred.
  • Administration, time management skills.
  • Able to work in high pressure environment. 
  • Deal with in bound and out bound calls. 
  • High attention to detail with Processing.
  • Outstanding customer service focus and skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High professional and ethical standards.
  • Computer and system process efficient.
  • Ability to work in a small team environment.
  • ANZIIF qualified or similar is highly desired.
