About this role
The BT Mobile network is currently the best performing network in the UK, according to external benchmarking studies. The IMS & Mobile Voice team is responsible for designing and capacity planning a network that supports over 30 million users across 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G, Wi-Fi & Fixed telephony.
As Network Design Specialist, you will have the opportunity to work across multiple technologies, from the newest IMS innovations to circuit switched technology. You will be expected to deliver and maintain voice services across fixed and mobile for both Consumer and Enterprise Customer Facing Units (CFUs).
You will also be engaged in voice services, voice platform design and capacity management activities either as the Design lead or in a supporting role to projects or BAU work. You will have the opportunity to help design and deliver the strategic direction of the Voice Network through interactions with Senior Management, CFUs and the Architecture community.
You'll have the following responsibilities
Responsible for detailed voice design inputs and outputs at a platform and service level.
Producing and maintaining good quality high level and low-level voice design documentation.
Representing the team on project engagements, contributing the team requirements and the team deliverables of the project from concept through to launch.
Communicating within the team, Senior Management and other teams where required summaries of project scope and its associated requirements.
Designing scalable and resilient voice solutions of the highest quality using the best technology to attract new customers and to ensure our existing customers have the best experience possible.
Monitoring and maintaining the capacity of the voice platforms and their associated interfaces that the team has responsibility for.
Plan and delivery in a timely fashion any require capacity upgrades, configuration changes and or migration activities as needed.
Working closely with test and operations teams and other stakeholders across Technology to ensure the best stability of our voice solutions.
Providing technical expertise and consultancy to the team and beyond.
Ability to support and coach individuals within the team on voice core design activities.
You'll have the following skills & experience
Made decisions in ambiguous situations using incomplete information or differing opinions (e.g., divided project team opinions or unclear deliverables).
Demonstrable experience in mobile voice network design roles.
Good communication skills that simply explain technical details to varied audiences up to and including Director level.
Ability to Work with multiple teams and vendors to drive network customisations to enhance features and functionality.
Collaborating positively with others in and outside BT to drive best solutions and practices.
Ability to develop an internal network of strong working relationships you can call on to assist with your role.
Active participation in strategy setting sessions.
Ability to align project plans and objectives with BT strategy and values.
Developed quotes /business cases and ways to avoid costs.
Advocating and applying technology where it has not been used previously.
Delivered results when the deliverables were unclear.
Tackled process/policy obstacles to delivery.
