The Opportunity:

Are you a qualified motor transport professional with experience of working in a fast-paced operational environment looking to Grow with Gatwick?

The Engineering team protects, maintains and repairs​ Gatwick's infrastructure, from the electricity that powers this place to the giant plant rooms that heat and cool the airport, and there's some pretty specialist equipment on the airfield too!

What is the role?

The Transport Engineering Technicians work as part of a team completing planned, preventative and corrective maintenance on the systems and assets relating to the Transport Engineering department in a safe and timely manner, proactively seeking opportunities for improvements to safety, availability, or reduce tool time and running costs.

The Transport Engineering Technicians need to be adaptable, able to work on their own initiative, have a good understanding of the procedures and want to develop their skills in a very challenging and high-profile area of our Gatwick Airport.

 What will you do?

  • Undertake planned preventative/reactive/corrective maintenance, mindful of asset performance and operational requirements. Feedback requirements, or carry out work, required to repair out-of-service assets or improve poor performing ones.
  • Undertake tasks requiring in-depth technical competence in electrical/mechanical/control system engineering or other tasks falling within other engineering disciplines which you have skills for or have been trained in.
  • Use GAL I.T. – Work Management Systems (e.g. Ultimo) as required. Receive & close work orders, enter data accurately and use system data to drive individual and asset performance.
  • Ensure all engineering and operational records are updated to meet business, regulatory and manufacturer requirements.
  • Take responsibility for your own safety and the safety of those around you as part of your legal responsibility such as the wearing of PPE, completing mandatory training and reporting H&S accidents, incidents and near misses.
  • Pro-actively undertake and support performance improvement activities/programmes.
  • Effectively communicate to customers and colleagues the progress of completing work and any information relevant to the business or operation.
  • Work with and support others (Senior Technicians/Technicians & Apprentices) on a 1:1 basis and as part of a team.  Where-ever possible, provide guidance and learning to improve other's skills or knowledge.
  • Actively upgrade your own skills and knowledge to maintain and operate existing and new assets to ensure they are maintained in a manner which keeps them performing at the required level.
  • Support the Engineering Manager's to conduct the TPDR process with the team by providing feedback on the team's performance both in terms of ‘what' they do and ‘how' they do it.

 Do you have what we're looking for?

  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work on own initiative without close supervision and be self motivated
  • Understanding and proven experience in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Able to carry out system performance improvements
  • Technical experience in a vehicle maintenance environment
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Electrical Skilled Person ESR 2
  • Effective communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Adequate IT skills including Microsoft Office and CMMS
