The Role
As our Metadata Manager, you will be responsible for driving the metadata data initiative within the ASDA Future Data programme supporting the data governance function; coordinating overall Data Ownership and Stewardship activities across the business ensuring a robust Data Catalogue is in place and the data artifacts are kept up to date, at the highest standards.
- You will need to understand existing metadata architectures, data management tools, business processes to define and develop the metadata model, support capture and maintenance of data artefacts defined during Global Design and Solution Delivery.
- The position will focus on establishing an enterprise-wide data catalogue with required curation through acquired data asset knowledgebase and you will need to identify current and target states of all existing metadata repositories
- You will be pro-actively engaging with data owners and data stewards around ASDA about the benefits of treating data as an asset and how robust Data Catalogue and data stewardship can optimise business effectiveness, reduce risk and improve growth opportunities.
- You will be defining, measuring, tracking, and communicating the benefits of great metadata framework and best practices across the business.
- You will engage and work with business data governance forums and decision bodies to support data owners and stewards to define, agree, and communicate business data standards and procedures and can use detailed real-world business examples to justify changing poor data management practices.
- You will be working within agile delivery and implementation of Data Governance workflows supporting both business change data management activity and the governance of data and analytical pipelines with the Cloud Data EcoSystem
- You will have a good understanding of data taxonomies and their application in the classification and tagging of data to support security and data protection requirements and restrictions; working with the business to develop strategies for improvements in critical data assets.
About you:
- You are a strong communicator and facilitator and able to work with and influence at functional level of the organisation
- You will be proactive and keen to help the business better manage and govern its data
- You will have experience in defining metadata models and metadata unification strategy considering including Data Catalogue and Business glossary concepts
- You will have passion to promotes use of appropriate techniques, methodologies, and tools to drive use of best practice and compliance to ASDA`s policies and procedures
- You will have ability to influence stakeholders, obtains input from and communicate metadata modelling results to senior managers for agreement with DIA and Architecture
- You will demonstrate excellent knowledge of Data governance, BI/DW concepts and hands on experience in data modelling using industry standard data models, particularly Retail
- You should have experience of management and implementation of the other metadata repository tools, including Alation, Collibra, or MS Azure Purview is highly desirable
