Mental Health Therapist
Interprofessional Primary Care (IPC) Mental Health Team
One (1) year full-time contract (35 hours per week) starting as soon as possible
Replacement of a parental leave

Location: St.Catharines (Quest CHC) with travel in the Niagara region 
Annual salary: $ 63,063 - 75,979 $ Excellent benefits

Under the direction of the Specialized Services Director and the supervision of the IPC Program Coordinator, the Mental Health Counsellor is as a member of the Multidisciplinary Team. He/she is always guided by the principles of health promotion and the determinants of health. He / she provides therapy and individual counseling services in the community.

 

Responsibilities:

  •  Work within an anti-racism, anti-oppression, culturally appropriate approach, and in language of choice;

  •  Physician and client engagement

  • Conduct psychosocial assessments to clients experiencing mental health difficulties

  • Provide individual intervention services to clients using a variety of approaches such as brief therapy,CBT ,ACT, DBT, EMDR, etc.

  • Ensure that the intervention methods chosen for the various issues are evidence based

  • Organize initiatives to raise awareness about mental health issues

  • Initiate and participate in collaborative care planning

  • Participate in community initiatives and committees to improve the quality of life for clients with mental health issues

  • Collaborate with relevant internal/external partners to develop intervention models that are based on best practices and provide quality services

  • Prepare reports and maintain records

  • Keep statistics on programs for evaluation and research purposes

  • Manage ongoing caseload (booking, discharging and client follow-up)

  • Prepare and send reports to physicians according to the standards established by the Center and according to the physicians' preference

  • When appropriate completing referrals to community resources and programs

  • Perform other related tasks

 

Education, Experience and Specific Requirements:

  • Master's degree in social work, counselling or other university degree relevant to the practice of
    counselling and psychotherapy from a recognized institution
  • Member in good standing of a Professional College (OCSWSSW or CRPO - Authorized for independent practice)
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience
  • Experience and practice in counselling and/or psychotherapy
  • In-depth understanding of mental health issues
  • In-depth knowledge of psychosocial assessment and counseling techniques
  • Ability to handle crises effectively
  • Knowledgeable on the mental health community resources available
  • Commitment to working co-operatively with clients and members of the interdisciplinary team
  • Openness to the customs and habits of other cultures
  • Excellent organization and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge and ability to use basic computer software
  • Excellent knowledge of oral and written English (French language skills are an asset)
  • Be willing to work flexible hours to meet the needs of clients
  • Have access to a motor vehicle and hold a valid Ontario driver's license
  • Provide a criminal record check including the vulnerable sector check
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination (or medical ticket for exemption) will be requested at time of hire
